ALGS Split 2 Playoffs - Format

Much like the Split 1 Playoffs, this will feature three rounds ranging from the group stage to the bracket stage, and then the finals. 40 teams will be split into four groups of 10 where each group will play against one another in a six-game series. This ensures that every team will play a total of 18 games for just the group stage alone on July 13 & 14.

Group Stage

At the end of day two of the group stage, all 40 teams will proceed to the bracket stage as follows:

  • 20 teams with the highest group stage score will start in the upper bracket
  • 20 teams with the lowest group stage score will start in the first round of the lower bracket

Bracket Stage

The bracket stage will take place on July 15 with a singular six-game series for the upper bracket while the lower bracket will have two six-game series to play. Here is how the teams will advance to the finals:

  • Upper Bracket: Only the top 10 teams from the upper bracket will advance to the finals. The remaining bottom 10 teams from the upper bracket will move on to the second round of the lower bracket.
  • Lower Bracket Round 1: Only the top 10 teams from the first round of the lower bracket will advance to the second round. The bottom 10 teams will be eliminated from the tournament.
  • Lower Bracket Round 2: The top 10 from the first round will meet the bottom 10 from the upper bracket to determine the final 10 teams that will be heading to the finals.

Finals

The grand finals of the ALGS Split 2 Playoffs will take place on July 16 with the final 20 teams competing using the Match Point format. The 10 teams that advanced from the upper bracket will be seeded according to their placements from the bracket stage. They will then start the finals with Advanced Starting Points.

A team will first have to first reach 50 points to be considered match-point eligible and will have to win the following match to win the entire tournament. The first team to win the next match after being match-point eligible will be considered the winner of the ALGS Split 2 Playoffs.

And once the winner is declared, teams from second to 20th will be ranked based on total grand final points. There is also no limit to how many teams can be considered match-point eligible. here is how the seeding will work for the finals:

  • 1st seed - 10 points
  • 2nd seed - 9 points
  • 3rd seed - 8 points
  • 4th seed - 7 points
  • 5th seed - 6 points
  • 6th seed - 5 points
  • 7th seed - 4 points
  • 8th seed - 3 points
  • 9th seed - 2 points
  • 10th seed - 1 point
