The long-awaited finale to God of War's Nordic saga launches this November.
PlayStation Studios has finally revealed a release date for God of War Ragnarok: November 9, 2021. The highly anticipated sequel will launch on both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, its story following Kratos and his son Atreus confronting the Nordic apocalypse.
We also have a short trailer for the game, which shows us, “a glimpse at some of the dangers Kratos and Atreus could find themselves up against as Ragnarok approaches.”
While the trailer doesn’t give us a lot of gameplay to dissect, it does tease a showdown between Kratos, Atreus and Fenrir the wolf - one of the main players in the end of the world as depicted in Nordic mythology, otherwise referred to as Ragnarok. Fun fact: Fenrir also happens to be the son of Loki/Atreus in the old stories. That means Atreus now has two giant animal children to deal with, including the World Serpent. He also has a third child: Hel, the Nordic goddess of death. The more you know!
Developer Santa Monica Studio has also unveiled an assortment of God of War Ragnarok game editions, starting with the standard edition and going all the way up to the Jotnar Edition. The standard, deluxe and launch editions of the games give the player more in-game cosmetics and digital goodies depending on which ones you’re going for.
The Jotnar Edition is a variant of the Collector’s Edition, both of which include a set of dice, two wooden carved figures and a 16-inch replica of Thor’s hammer Mjolnir. Ryan Hurst, who plays Thor in the game, and art director Rafael Grasseti show off these editions in an unboxing video:
God of War Ragnarok will serve as the ending for Kratos and Atreus’ Nordic saga, making this and God of War (2018) a tight duology. The first game launched earlier this year on Steam, being just the latest of many PlayStation Studios games being ported over to PC.
