Ochkanatlan will immerse players in the history of Natlan, corroded by the influence of the Abyss.
Much of Natlan’s fiery history is drenched in a constant state of war against the dark influence of the Abyss, and its impact is evident in the abandoned ancient city of Ochkanatlan, located near the Flower-Feather Clan's territory. This area is set to arrive in Genshin Impact’s version 5.2 update, allowing players to explore and uncover the secrets of Ochkanatlan in an all-new Interlude Archon Quest and world quest. Here's everything we know about Ochkanatlan prior to the upcoming update:
Everything we know about Ochkanatlan in Version 5.2
Known as the Cinder City, Ochkanatlan was once populated by an ancient civilisation (also called Ochkanatlan) who worshipped Xbalanque, the first Pyro Archon of Natlan. It was ruled by a tyrant king named Och-Kan during the era of the Grand Alliance, but he was later overthrown by the Red-Eyed Hero and his party. Ochkanatlan was abandoned after, but the reasons for that are still unknown.
Similar to previous ancient civilisations featured in Genshin Impact's world-building and extensive lore, Ochkanatlan may seem like a simple relic of the past at first glance, but the information players may glean during exploration could be much more important than expected. Who knows? Maybe Ochkanatlan also suffered the wrath of the enigmatic and mysterious Heavenly Principles, and that's why it was abandoned. We'll only know when we get there.
In more recent times, Ochkanatlan is seen as a dangerous and cursed place, with tribes avoiding entry by any means necessary. The seedy reputation of these ruins were solidified when a group from the Saurian Relics Association vanished without a trace, after being sent to investigate Ochkanatlan.
Whatever lurks within Ochkanatlan is unconfirmed, only being described through rumours and vague stories. One of these stories hints that, within the foggy remains of this ancient city, there lurks a great dragon standing guard over “forbidden stories of the past." Are the “forbidden” stories connected to the oft-mentioned “forbidden knowledge” in-game?
But the danger doesn’t stop there, as the Abyss has rooted itself in Ochkanatlan. Within its ruins, Abyss-tainted enemies are waiting to unleash mayhem upon anyone brave enough to step foot inside. Ochkanatlan also hides a secret in the sky, which may reveal an even deeper mystery to this abandoned city. Thankfully, a peculiar and non-aggressive companion called Cocouik is set to provide some aid as we explore Ochkanatlan. This companion will be able to clear Abyssal Blight and deal damage to enemies.
Ochkanatlan seems to be deeply connected to the story of our little Saurian companion. We won’t spoil any of the happenings of this specific world quest chain, but it’s safe to assume that our little Saurian companion’s peculiar condition will be further revealed as we explore this new area when version 5.2 drops!
Genshin Impact’s version 5.2 will be released on November 20, 2024.
