TI 2024: Aurora crushed at the hands of Xtreme Gaming

Aurora’s hopes of securing the first-ever Southeast Asian win at The International come crashing down on day 1 of the main event.

With BetBoom Team unable to continue their run at The International 2024 earlier today, as they went down 2-0 to Team Falcons, one more team would lose their tournament lives today. China’s final hope, Xtreme Gaming, which included the uncrowned Wang “Ame” Chunyu, would need to fight against the underdog Southeast Asian team of Aurora. With tournament lives on the line, everything would be thrown into the series, with a guaranteed top 6 finish for the victor.

Game one would see Aurora rely on the setup of Anucha “Jabz” Jirawong’s Enigma, while Nuengnara “23savage” Teeramahanon hoped that Windrunner would help find his team the pickoffs required to take a firm hold on the series. Unfortunately for the SEA team, they began to fall behind quickly and never found their way back into the game. With Ame’s Muerta and Hongcheng “Xm” Guos unkillable Queen of Pain dominating across the map, XG took a step in the right direction to reach the next round.

It seemed as though it was all over for Aurora in Game 2, even with Ame’s Faceless Void taking the Time Zone Facet. However, it was an amazing turtle and split push strategy from Aurora which made the game more interesting, with Lycan and Storm Spirit managing to keep them in the game. Unfortunately for Aurora, one mistake was all it took for them to crumble – as they went into a fight that they were never going to take.

With that, Xtreme Gaming moves into the top 6 of TI2024, leaving Aurora as just another stone on their path through the lower bracket. Aurora, even after putting up a great fight, was eliminated from The International 2024, joining BetBoom Team as the first two teams sent packing from the main event.
