Shopify Rebellion part ways with three players to rebuild the roster for 2024

Shopify Rebellion will be without Fly, Crit and Abed for the upcoming Dota 2 season, breaking some of the longest partnerships in the current Dota 2 scene.

It was 2018 when Artour “Arteezy” Babaev, Andreas “Cr1t” Nielsen and Tal “Fly” Aizik started playing together on the old Evil Geniuses Dota 2 roster. The three of them played together for five years, eventually joining forces with Shopify Rebellion last year. But that long standing partnership has finally come to an end as Fly and Crit will be departing the roster along with Abed “Abed” Yusop.

Fly, Crit and Arteezy started their journey together with a bang, finishing third at TI8. Abed joined in 2019, right before the pandemic in 2020 which put a halt on Dota 2 LAN events. But once things got going in 2021, Evil Geniuses had a strong season with two second place finishes at the two DPC Majors that took place that season. But ever since then, it has been a steady downfall for the team.

These four players played together along with their coach, Sam “Bulba” Sosale for three seasons, but the results in recent months have been disappointing. After two consecutive years of failing to make the top 8 at The International, they have finally decided to part ways. Fly left the team for half a year in the 2021-2022 season, but returned after things didn’t work out for either entity. This time, it doesn’t seem like he will be coming back. But there was no bad blood, as he wished the organization well after the announcement was made.

Shopiy Rebellion currently only have two players in their ranks – Arteezy and Jonas “SabeRLighT” Volek, along with coach Bulba. It remains to be seen who will be filling the remaining three spots for them for the 2023-2024 season.

All three players – Fly, Crit and Abed – have achieved a lot in the past and will potentially have a lot of teams vying for their signatures. It has been a while since these players have made moves in the Dota 2 scene, so it is exciting to see where they will end up going.
