beastcoast and K1 part ways ahead of Bali Major

A four year shared history comes to an end for beastcoast and Héctor “K1” Rodríguez, who go separate ways, putting at risk a direct invite to The International for the team.

beastcoast finished the final Dota Pro Circuit tour regional league and have recently played at DreamLeague Season 20 with David "Parker" Nicho Flores standing in after K1 went on a mental health break. “We fully support Hector’s decision and will provide him with the necessary support during this challenging time,” said beastcoast a month ago, on May 25, when K1 took time off to prioritize his well-being.

In the meantime, the team placed second in the South America DPC Summer Tour regional league and earned a spot at the upcoming Bali Major, the last pit stop before The International 2023.

While the team made waves at the previous TI with a top 8 finish in Singapore, and entering the new season they continued to stay at the top of their region, they fell flat at the first two majors of 2023, unable to grab any extra DPC points at either Lima or Berlin Major.

Before taking the decision to split ways with K1, beastcoast were in a somewhat comfortable sixth place in the DPC rankings with 1000 points to their name. Following K1’s removal, the team lost 20% of its points and is now dangerously low, in the 11th position with 800 points.

For them to lock in that TI presence through a direct invite, beastcoast will need to get in the top eight or even higher at the Bali Major. They will continue to play with Parker, who will make his Major debut later this week in Bali.

At the same time, K1 announced his free agency and interest in adventuring to a new region to join a new team.

The International 2023 regional qualifiers were just announced earlier this week by Valve and for the first time in TI history, SA has received two slots. K1 has about two months to find a team and fight through regional qualifiers, which will unfold as follows:

  • North America and China: August 17th-21st
  • South America and Eastern Europe: August 22nd-26th
  • Southeast Asia and Western Europe: August 27th-31st
