Quincy Crew secure a place at the first DPC Major of the year

Quincy Crew won their sixth consecutive NA DPC League series in a row to secure a place in the first DPC Major of the new Dota 2 year.

Massive roster changes often result in teams trying to figure things out with new teammates, and it can lead to a dip in performance, even for prominent teams. The best examples of this phenomenon are perhaps Evil Geniuses and Team Secret, who used to dominate their respective DPC Leagues, but are now in a precarious situation with respect to qualification for the DPC Major.

The effect of roster change, though, has not shown on Quincy Crew, who have kept their dominant status in Division I of the North American DPC League. Quincy Crew finished second and first respectively in last years’ two seasons, and they have assured themselves a top two finish in the NA DPC 2021-2022 Winter Tour after a 2-1 win over Black N Yellow, which took their series score to an impressive 6-0.

Even though Quincy Crew had a decent enough showing in the region in the past two seasons, their performances at the Majors and at TI10 were subpar. The result was three players leaving the team, and only Yawar “Yawar” Hassan and Quinn “Quinn” Callahan staying on. But the new roster, led by former coach Maurice "Khezu" Gutmann, has gelled together quicker than most would have expected, and have put to bed teams like 4Zoomers and even Team Undying, who are rolling with the same roster as last year.

The only series Quincy Crew are yet to play is the one against Evil Geniuses, which will be the last series of Division I of the NA DPC League. The relevance of that series will depend on who wins the contest between EG and Undying. In case Undying win that, QC will secure the top spot in the league. But if Undying win it, Quincy Crew will have to win their game against EG to avoid a potential tiebreaker to decide who gets the top spot. Either ways, Quincy Crew will make it to either the Major playoffs (1st place in NA) or the Major group stage (2nd place in NA), so there is reason to celebrate.

The challenge that the new Quincy Crew roster will now face will be performing at the DPC Major. The team has been an NA powerhouse for the past couple of years, but has failed to make a mark on the international stage. It is that performance, or rather lack of performance, from the second or third NA team on the international stage that has kept a third DPC Major slot out of the grasp of North America. If the new and revamped Quincy Crew can carry their dominant showing to the Major, it could be a conversation that might need to be had again.
