The International 2023 regional qualifiers spotlight; Navigating SEA

It is time for The International 2023 regional qualifiers in SEA with only one spot up for grabs.

The International 2023 qualifiers have already begun. Four regions have already decided on their representatives. Two regions remain.

Only eight teams will qualify for TI through the Regional Qualifiers; two teams from South America and Western Europe, and only one from North America, Eastern Europe, China, and Southeast Asia.

SEA has only one spot up for grabs, but things don't look to be as cut and dry for which team will be able to secure it. As always the region has been volatile, rough, and the tides have changed in the last few weeks as new blood has been brought ashore.

The first matches will be the brutal best-of-one elimination series

The International 2023 regional qualifier front runners:

Execration was just inches away from securing their TI invite —20 points to be exact. They ended in 13th place with 740 DPC points when the invites were awarded.

Not satisfied with their results and knowing they only have one spot available to them in the TI regional qualifiers, the team has parted ways with Federico "Abeng" Jr. and has taken on Juan "Carlo" Manalo for Riyadh Masters. Carlo will also be in the captain's chair, commanding the roster through the competition.

The Singaporean based organisation Bleed Esports made its foray into the Dota 2 realm at the beginning of this year’s Dota Pro Circuit and barely survived in the Southeast Asia Division I league for the first two tours. After dodging relegation in the first tour with a sixth-place finish, Bleed recruited SEA veterans Daryl "iceiceice" Koh and Djardel "DJ" Mampusti, but the results didn’t improve. Rasmus "MISERY" Filipsen replaced Lee "Forev" Sang-don in mid-May, and with him in charge, Bleed Esports qualified for the Bali Major, the third and final major of the 2023 DPC.

Blacklist made its debut in Dota 2 with a fully stacked Filipino squad for the DPC 2022-23 season 10 months ago. While they were able to begin their journey in Division I, the results were average - a 4th place finish overall awarding them some points and hope for the future. Tour 2 they slipped into 5th place but it was in Tour 3 where they really stood out and seemed to find their footing. Seizing second place in the region they were then able to secure a place at the Bali Major. Despite ending in 13-14th place, their results and performance gave fans hopes for the TI regional qualifiers.

BOOM Esports were undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with last year. They made it to TI11 as one of the top 8 teams in the world, but fast forward to the present day, and losing three players in the post-TI shuffle seemed to have cost them a great deal. In Tour 1, they were relegated to Division II with just two victories to their name and five losses. Maybe it was a wake-up call, but BOOM was then able to be promoted to Division I after taking 1st place in Division II of Tour 2 - with an undefeated record no less. Their excitement quickly drained, however, as they struggled to keep their head above water in Division I and ended once again in 7th place with a dismal record.

Then it happened.

Team Aster went with a rather unexpected decision, replacing BoBoKa with Hu "Kaka" Liangzhi but it seems that the Chinese player will be heading to SEA to compete with BOOM esports. It will be interesting for fans to see how BoBoka will fit in the rough SEA waters.

Of most interest to many fans is that of Team SMG. This team has been struggling all season. The best they were able to do this season was 3rd place in Tour 2 for Division I of the DPC. That said, it seems that they are pinning their hopes on no[o]ne to save them.

In a shock to most of the SEA and the EEU regional fans, Volodymyr "No[o]ne-" Minenko headed to warmer waters to navigate SEA in hopes of sailing to Seattle for The International.
