Players can change their Riot ID every 90 days instead of 365 days

Riot Games has announced reworks on the Riot ID transition plan.

Good news! Riot Games heard the fans and they made some big updates to cater to your feedback. After the initial announcement of Riot, the VALORANT community was adamant about the upcoming change in the Riot ID system.

Back then, Riot announced that players would have to wait for 365 days before they could change their Riot ID again. This is a huge change because VALORANT players were used to changing their in-game name every 30 days. This system paved the way to the classic “I miss her” Jett main players and matching IGNs for VALORANT couples.

Now, they are dialing back the 365-day waiting period to a more manageable 90 days. This will give players more flexibility to change their in-game identities.

Riot also removed the paid option for faster Riot ID changes. They told fans that they're keeping the door open for potential paid or earned options in the future if the 90-day waiting period is not enough.

In addition, Riot updated the game scoreboards to always display the hashtag when multiple players with the same name share the battlefield. No more confusion, just clear identification. And if you were worried about impersonation in the Riot ID system, Riot promises they've got a solution in the works.

There are a number of factors why Riot has decided to move forward with Riot IDs.

According to Riot, new players spend an average of 5 minutes and enduring 8 rejections just to land on a unique name. Riot acknowledged that it is important to have a unique Summoner Name all to yourself on the server, but they're throwing that out the window in the name of a smoother new player experience.

Furthermore, this initiative aids in resolving technical debt resulting from maintaining two distinct naming systems, allowing engineers to redirect their focus to other tasks.
