Think twice when changing your in-game name because you’ll have to wait 365 days to change it again.
Starting November 20, players can only change their Riot ID every 365 days. Riot told fans that they will phase out the usage of “Summoner Names” and move all players exclusively to Riot IDs to create a more unified experience across all our games.
For players who are used to match IGNs with their significant other, think twice before changing your name because you can’t change it for the next 365 days.
Players often see matching in-game names in VALORANT. “E-daters”, as what the community call these couples in-game, tend to use each other’s names as a tagline or get matching IGNs.
During our VALORANT games, it is easy to spot these duos as they not only have matching IGNs but they also do cute or cringy stuff together. There are pocket Sages who exclusively heal and resurrect their Jett players and other members of the team just roll their eyes.
On the other hand, there are duos who fight for the match MVP and we love being carried by these competitive couples. Indeed, there are different types of VALORANT couples and matching IGNs is the easiest way to spot if you have one on your team.
Meanwhile, there are classic IGN’s such as “I miss her” for brokenhearted players. It is an ongoing joke within the community that players who got their hearts broken suddenly became stronger in the game. These players usually auto lock a duelist, particularly Jett and carry the whole lobby. It is called the “heartbreak” buff.
There are a lot of factors to consider why this usually happens. It might be the lack of distraction or the determination to rank up. However, this phenomenon cannot be statistically proven.
With the upcoming change, players should now be careful when changing their IGNs to something they temporarily feel. If you think 365 days is nothing for you and your partner, go ahead. We’d love to see those creative and witty IGNs in-game.
