Los Angeles will play home to the latest VALORANT map, Sunset

The City of Angels will play a part in VALORANT's latest map, Sunset.

Riot Games has just confirmed the latest map coming to VALORANT in the next few days to be Sunset, which pays homage to the city of Los Angeles, California. It was already rumoured for quite some time that the City of Angels was going to be the next location of the new map, which is also home to the VALORANT dev team.

The new map was officially introduced to the public at the VCT Champions 2023 grand finals at the KIA Forum. Lead map designer, Joe Langford talked about the creative process of Sunset and what it meant to him as a local.

The overall look of the new map managed to capture LA's iconic 'golden hour' vibe while also being littered with some of the city's most popular spots like a skate park, food trucks, as well as the clock tower. With traffic being a staple in LA, it only made sense for the devs to include it in the map as well.

Its neon glow will give players a different feel for the lighting with Sunset taking place during sundown, hence the name. The architecture and design of the map also feature Mission-style and Art Deco structures alongside various graffiti tags created by local artists.

Sunset will be the 10th map added to the list and will be released just five months after Gekko was released, who also happened to be a native of LA. The three-lane, two-site map has placed heavy emphasis on teams fighting for control over the middle lane. The entire middle area of the map doesn't favour any team and being able to hold it down will increase a team's chances of winning.

Another staple of LA is its seemingly endless sights and that will also be found in Sunset with its long sightlines, which will be a treat for riflers and Operator abusers. Sunset will also be riddled with various boxes, barrels, and other staples in the game to give players different types of covers and sightlines to play from.

Sunset will join the VALORANT map pool this coming Tuesday, 29 August, which is also when Episode Seven, Act Two will drop. Both Fracture and Pearl will be removed from the cycle and will be replaced by Sunset and Breeze.
