Fans rejoiced as the star player of Paper Rex revealed that his U.S. Visa is secured.
Ilya “something” Petrov of Paper Rex secured his U.S. Visa and gave fans the assurance that he will play on the big stage of VCT Champions. Securing a visa to compete in tournaments held in foreign countries can be a daunting process. Fans were relieved that they can finally see their PRX favorite on stage.
Something played a key role in the success of Paper Rex in the past tournaments. After a 3-1 victory over DRX in the VCT Pacific League, the player was deemed to be a rising star.
Unfortunately, Something was not able to play in VCT Masters Tokyo after failing to secure visa before the event. He had joined the team in the middle of the season and his Japan visa application was still under review. This created uncertainty about his participation until well into the tournament and led to his absence from the tournament.
Patiphan "CigaretteS" Posri was his substitute and Paper Rex ended the tournament in third place. Fans lauded Paper Rex for an impressive run despite Something’s visa issues.
Now that Something is clear to attend Valorant Champions, Paper Rex looks good coming into the tournament with their original roster.
The group stage of Valorant Champions will begin on August 6. Paper Rex was grouped against the LCQ Americas winner KRÜ Esports, Chinese fan-favorites EDward Gaming, and LCQ EMEA winner Giants.
The opening match will be against KRÜ and the schedule is yet to be announced. All group stage matches will be in a best-of-three format. The top two teams from each group will advance to the playoffs.
The prize pool was not officially announced yet but it is like $1 million based on the previous VCT Champions tournament.
