The Guard secured the championship title and earned a spot at the VCT Americas League.
The Guard defeated M80 after scoring 3-1 in the grand finals of VCT Ascension Americas 2023. The championship series of VCT Ascension Americas is a battle of the North American teams.
Fans saw a rematch between The Guard and M80 at the grand finals. The Guard previously knocked off M80 in the lower bracket during the semifinals. However, M80 survived the series of do-or-die matchups unscathed.
M80 was undefeated in their lower bracket journey as they secure a ticket to the grand finals series. On the other hand, The Guard triumphed over The Union in the upper bracket to take the slot.
Both teams brought their A-game in the opening match. M80 dominated the first half of the game and The Guard regained the upper hand in the defending side. In the end, M80 chalked the first win on the scoreboard.
The next match took place in Haven where The Guard showcased their dominance. M80 tried to retaliate but The Guard’s attacks were too strong. During the first half, M80 only scored one round, making it difficult for them to bounce back. The game ended 13-3 in favor of The Guard.
The Guard built on the momentum and got confident to close the game in their favor. The team hyped up the crowd and shouted “Let’s go! Flawless!” after winning the pistol round. M80 took the chance to punish The Guard for their slip-ups and stole the next round win even if they were at a gun disadvantage.
The match went into overtime but The Guard proved that they are the better team in their map pick. The fan favorites moved on to the next game as they step closer to the championship title.
The final game of the series saw both NA teams in a cutthroat competition. The first half of the game ended with a 6-6 score and it seemed that the round wins can go either way.
The Guard showed that they are the better NA team with well-executed attacks and site hits. The firepower was too much and M80 had to tap out of the tournament.
The Guard claimed the VCT Ascension Americas 2023 trophy and a two-year promotion into VCT Americas.
