Evil Geniuses takes out LOUD in the first VCT Masters Tokyo playoff series

Evil Geniuses comes out on top in the all-VCT Americas match-up against LOUD to secure a semifinal spot.

The highly-anticipated series between Evil Geniuses and LOUD did not disappoint as EG took out the VCT Americas League winners 2-0 and sent them to the lower bracket. The current VCT LOCK//IN champions were seen as favourites ahead of the tie, but EG stopped it with stellar performances in both games.

With that win, EG moves on to the semifinals where they will await the winner between Team Liquid and EDward Gaming. In only their third best-of-three series in the tournament, EG has managed to maintain a 100 per cent win rate without dropping a single map.

And the series against LOUD was the perfect opportunity for EG to get their revenge after losing twice to the Brazilian org in the VCT Americas League. The first map on Fracture saw EG take a commanding 9-3 lead that included winning the first four rounds. EG would go on to win the next four of the eight rounds in the second half, giving them a 1-0 lead headed into game two.

On LOUD's pick of Ascent, it was EG who would come out the gates swinging once more, taking the first four rounds once again before LOUD could get itself on the board. The South American squad would perform marginally better in the second map, going into the break at a 5-7 deficit. Unfortunately, EG went on a warpath in the second half of game two.

The next six rounds were brutal for LOUD, having to watch EG run them over time and time again. It was also a series to watch for the likes of  Alexander "jawgemo" Mor, who was outstanding in the second game for EG. He raked in 21 kills for the team along with the second-highest ACS of 300 with only his teammate Ethan "Ethan" Arnold scoring more.

That win also gave EG an extra day's rest as they won't be playing on the main stage again until next Monday for the upper bracket semifinal match-up. As for LOUD, they will be hoping to regroup and reset for the lower bracket, which now gives them extra matches to go through in order to make another grand finals appearance.
