EDward Gaming and FUT Esports live on to fight for one more day.
Day three of the VCT Masters Tokyo has come to an end and with it, two teams have left the Tipstar Dome arena. NAVI and Attacking Soul Esports are the first two teams to be eliminated from the tournament having lost their elimination match-ups against EDward Gaming and FUT Esports respectively.
Both EDG and FUT will move on to play their deciding matches tomorrow. FUT will kick things off tomorrow against DRX, followed by EDG versus T1. The winners of the deciding matches will move on to the playoffs, where the bracket will be drawn after the conclusion of the group stage.
The VCT Pacific League will be hoping to have at least one more team in the playoffs tomorrow with both T1 and DRX in action. With the EMEA already having two slots in Fnatic and Team Liquid, a third in FUT would be ideal. Meanwhile, China will be hoping to have at least one of its teams in the playoffs tomorrow with EDG looking solid in their series against NAVI.
In a series that went over an hour and a half, many would think it went to all three games. However, it was EDG who came out victorious on Pearl and Bind with overtime taking place on both maps. Game one saw EDG take a slim lead in the match with a 7-5 lead at halftime. But in the second half, NAVI would come out swinging, turning the tides in another 7-5 that also includes a four-round streak. Heading into overtime, both teams would go back and forth taking round for round before EDG dealt a killer blow by taking the last three games in a row to seal map one.
Game two was another belter with EDG taking an early lead this time with EDG taking four straight rounds. And once more, NAVI would respond and this time with tenacity, taking the next six of eight rounds to tie things up into the half. Coming out from the break, both teams were tense, sensing that neither wants to give anything away. This saw another six-all draw to bring it to overtime once again. However, EDG's ability to assert themselves in the opening rounds would prove vital as they would quickly sweep NAVI in two straight rounds to claim the win.
And while the earlier series between ASE and FUT didn't need overtime, it also went the distance with ASE taking Haven in a dominant first game. The VCT EMEA third seed was not to be outdone, typing up the series with an impressive second-half display on Ascent that saw them take six straight rounds. With the score all tied, we headed to Lotus for the decider and FUT came out on top with an 8-4 lead at the half. Another great second-half performance saw them win five of the seven rounds to see them live to fight another day.
Both EDward Gaming and FUT Esports will be in action tomorrow against T1 and DRX respectively to determine the final two teams that will qualify to the VCT Masters Tokyo playoffs.
