Karmine Corp get hit with roster shakeup after player 'abandons' team

Karmine Corp is fielding their assistant coach following a rough start to the VCT EMEA season.

Karmine Corp has announced that their assistant coach Ahmed ‘ZE1SH’ El Sheikh will replace departing player Alexis ‘Newzera’ Humbert. The roster shakeup comes amid the team’s rough performance in the VCT EMEA season, having suffered a streak of losses on their own map picks in their last match.

Karmine Corp have not had a good month, to say the least. The VALORANT team performed terribly in their VCT EMEA matches, and after going 0-2 against Team Vitality, announced that Newzera was stepping down from the team on April 19. The team’s captain Adil ‘ScreaM’ Benrlitom issued a statement on Twitter to explain that ZE1SH would also take over as in-game leader:

My brother and I still live this moment when one of our teammates abandons the team within a competition (Liquid). Today we are encountering a lot of difficulties internally and honestly I think this is the first time in my career where I need all your support and strength to overcome this ordeal. Playing as a team is such an intense moment and I wish everyone this happiness. On the other hand, it is enough that a link does not attach to the chain and all is lost...

The post implies that ScreaM views Newzera’s departure as an abandonment of the team and their players, and that the team suffers from more serious problems than a roster change. The shakeup certainly can’t help things unless ZE1SH manages to rise to the occasion during the team’s next match against NAVI on April 21 this week.

ZE1SH’s addition to the competing roster is happening due to VCT’s strict rules on roster changes after the mid-season transfer window. Since one of the team’s six players is stepping out, one of their coaches will have to replace them for the length of the tournament.

Karmine Corp are currently sitting at 1-3 in the overall VCT EMEA standings, but we’ll see how this roster shakeup affects the team moving into their next match against NAVI.
