The 15-year-old Terran player puts an end to BackHo's great run in the GomTV Avaratec-Intel Classic, and the final of the first season will be legendary: Jaedong against FlaSh.
BackHo started in the round of 64, defeating Hery to advance to the next round where a tough opponent in the form of Kal waited. BackHo swept through in a 2-0 success, and then went on to take down GanZi and later on Stork in the quarter final. But for this semi final, FlaSh was a nut too hard to crack for BackHo.
This means that we will now see the super final every one has been waiting for: Jaedong versus FlaSh. MSL champion fOrGG robbed the chance of this epic clash by taking out FlaSh in the MSL semi final to the fans' regret. But this time, the KeSPA-ranked first and second in Korea will go head to head in the final, played August 10th.
Game one on Colosseum
FlaSh took the lead right from the start in the first game on Colosseum. BackHo tried a proxy gate but failed to close the deal early on because of FlaSh's wall-in. After that, the game turns into a more macro based game, FlaSh going for a factory mix with an early armory.
FlaSh could then perform numbers of well-executed vulture harassment that were devastating on BackHo's economy line. Massing up with tanks and vultures and grabbing the bottom expansion, FlaSh opts for a factory push, but BackHo manages to desperately push back FlaSh's actions with his gateway army supported by an couple of arbiters. But with more and more units coming in to the heart of BackHo's base, FlaSh out-chokes BackHo and grabs the first game.
- It was certainly a good build to counter FlaSh's build but once he threw his army away FlaSh just got too strong, but BackHo should have waited and got that recall and started recalling in FlaSh's main and kept on recalling, said Tasteless, commentating the match.
Early reaver harass in game two
On the second game on Othello BackHo (picture) went for a quick reaver drop build, and managed to harass FlaSh quite a lot early. But FlaSh could chase the shuttle out of there after a while thanks to great micro management. Keeping FlaSh busy, BackHo goes for a double expansion, grabbing his natural and the middle left expansion, as he popped at '10.
As FlaSh gets two vultures out to scout he sees the expansions and sends out his troops in the center of the map to keep BackHo inside his Protoss base. This also gives FlaSh the opportunity to take out the middle left expansion as BackHo decides to sacrifice it and instead continue his reaver harass in FlaSh's main. But thanks to well-placed missile turrets BackHo's shuttle dies just as it leaves the field. A tough sting for BackHo.
After losing the reaver, BackHo decides to go all-in with his zealot and dragoon army towards FlaSh's wall of siege tanks, vultures and massive amount of spider mines. The terran army is just too much for BackHo to pierce through, and FlaSh takes game two as well.
- BackHo's playing so well but it's just not enough, said commentator Tasteless after the match.
Wuthering Heights playground number three
Third game, played on Wuthering Heights, FlaSh spawned at the bottom left while BackHo at bottom right. Wuthering Heights, also known as Hills of Storm, has a 50% statistics in the Proleague, and a slight advantage for Protoss (12-11) in this particular tournament.
FlaSh once again performs almost flawless, having the map advantage early on and taking out the maynarding probes of BackHo all over the map. With a bit of luck for FlaSh, BackHo accidentally dropped his reaver (bottom picture) in a spot at the bottom middle full of spider mines. This hindered BackHo to keep the map advantage, while FlaSh continued to macro up.
FlaSh finally moves out and takes the center, which decreased BackHo's mobility. And with more and more units coming out for FlaSh, BackHo has trouble to break the push despite his arbiter support.
- Even with the perfect stasis there's really nothing he [BackHo] can do to stop this, says Tasteless. And right after that statement, FlaSh takes out one of BackHo's expansions and is now so far ahead that BackHo surrenders.
