No one is certain what the future of competitive Overwatch will bring. Will there be hero bans? Where there be more robots teaming up to destroy humans? New game modes? One thing we know for sure is that Overwatch will be played on maps. Those maps can often grant a competitive advantage, so we've created a new tool to start off the map picking in a more fair way.
Our previous GosuGamer's Weekly tournaments relied on a coin flip to determine which team picked the first map. Afterwards, the option was up to the losing team thereafter. Our new OWDraft tool now allows teams to ban out maps until only one map remains. That will be the map for the match.
In a competitive setting, the map banning will work as follows:
- The team with the first ban is determined at random.
- Along with first ban that team will choose if they want to attack or defend first.
- In the second game, the team who went second in the previous draft will receive both the first map ban and the option to choose offense or defense first.
- For a possible third game, the team with first ban is again determined at random, and the other team will have choice of starting on offense or defense.
We look forward to sharing our draft tool with you during the GosuGamers Overwatch Weekly EU and NA tournaments this weekend, starting on Saturday, February 13th.
