Activision officially delays Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile to 2024

Call of Duty’s new battle royale mobile game won’t launch with Modern Warfare 3 this year as originally planned.

Activision has confirmed that Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile has been delayed to 2024 from its original Fall 2023 launch window. The games publisher said that it needed more time to ‘polish up’ the mobile shooter, but also revealed more content and features coming to the game when it launches.

During Call of Duty’s NEXT event, Activision revealed that over 45 million players have already pre-registered for Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile - setting it up to be an immediate hit with those numbers. Verdansk will return as a playable map for the spin-off, but Rebirth Island is also making its mobile debut on launch day. The Warzone map has been specifically rebuilt for mobile gameplay, and Activision claims that it, “combines some of the best elements of Battle Royale and Multiplayer,” in one gigantic map.

Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile is technically already playable in limited release in a few countries (Australia, Sweden, Chile, Norway), with new content coming to the game via regular updates. For everyone else however, the game was announced to launch in Fall 2023 with the promise of cross-progression across Warzone, Warzone Mobile, Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3. Anyone who was hoping to play both Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone Mobile side-by-side this year will now have to wait until early 2024, at least.

Warzone Mobile will feature up to 120-player matches in Verdansk and Rebirth Island at launch, along with shared battle pass progression with the main Warzone title. Call of Duty: Warzone is also set to get a new map called Urzikstan with the launch of Modern Warfare 3, which launches on November 10, 2023. That's a lot of Call of Duty!
