It looks like another rebuild is in the works for Gen.G Esports.

Gen.G Esports have announced the official departure of four first-team players on its VALORANT squad earlier today via social media, which has caught many within the public off-guard after the shocking announcement. Kim "Meteor" Tae-O remains as the only player on the squad at the moment as Gen.G will be wary of releasing its star duelist.

As it stands, the likes of Seung-won "k1Ng" Lee, Tae-seok "TS" Yu, Sung-sin "GodDead" Kim, and Young-sub "Sylvan" Ko are now free agents after these players' contracts expired at the end of the season. With that much potential on the roster, these players will now be given the chance to explore more options during the off-season.

Aside from the four starting players, Gen.G also released their sixth man in Wang-ryong "eKo" Yeom as well as its support staff. This include the head coach Chris "Elmapuddy" Tebbit as well as their coach, Lee "bail" Sung-jae.

It is likely that Gen.G will look to rebuild its roster around Meteor for the upcoming 2024 season. The team had a decent start in the VCT Pacific League with a four-game win streak in the first four weeks. This included victories against the likes of T1, Team Secret, Rex Regum Qeon, and DetonatioN FocusMe.

Unfortunately, the team could not keep its consistency and momentum in the second-half of the Pacific League as they went on a five-game losing strak, which included back-to-back losses during the final week of games known as 'Super Week. However, this was still enough for Gen.G to make it to the Pacific League playoffs.

They would go on to lose to T1 in the first round, which resulted in them dropping to the lower bracket where they managed to defeat Team Secret once again. However, in the lower bracket semifinals, Gen.G met T1 once more and it was at the hands of their fellow countrymen that eliminated Gen.G from Masters contention.

Gen.G would go on to compete in the Pacific Last Chance Qualifiers for a shot at making it to VCT Champions 2023. They managed to get the better of Talon Esports in the upper bracket quarterfinals before losing to Team Secret in the semifinals. This resulted in them dropping to the lower bracket, where they managed to send RRQ home in a do-or-die series.

And it was in the lower bracket finals where Gen.G met Team Secret yet again, but this time in a best-of-five series. While Gen.G did start the series well with a win on Haven, the Filipino-based squad proved too much for the South Koreans, who went on to meet the eventual winners of the LCQ, ZETA Division.
