GTA 6 might come out as soon as next year, publisher Take-Two hints

Following an avalanche of leaks, the latest Grand Theft Auto game could launch in 2024.

Take-Two Interactive’s latest annual earnings report gave us a surprising tease of Grand Theft Auto 6’s planned release window: fiscal year 2025, which begins in April 2024. That means GTA 6 could launch a whole 11 years after its predecessor GTA 5, and six years after Rockstar Games’ latest release Red Dead Redemption 2.

According to the earnings report, Take-Two is predicting a huge amount of profits in its near future. Specifically, the publisher thinks that it’s going to hit $8 billion in net bookings for the 2025 fiscal year thanks to the release of, “several groundbreaking titles.” For comparison, the company reported a comparatively smaller sum of $5.3 billion for the 2023 fiscal year, and $3.5 billion the year before that.

This suggests that Take-Two is expecting to make some groundbreaking profits over the next year, and specifically calling out ‘groundbreaking titles’ suggests that GTA 6 is on the horizon. The publisher seems excited about it too, writing, “After numerous years of investment and creative development, we are excited about this next chapter for Take-Two. As we execute on our strategy and release what we expect will be an array of hit titles, we believe that we will grow our scale and margins, generating industry-leading returns for our shareholders."

Take-Two expects to keep this momentum going in fiscal year 2026 and beyond, and it’s entirely possible that it will if GTA 6’s online mode is anything like its predecessor. The publisher also has a few other games that have been churning away in development for years now, which it could lean on to make that $8 billion sum materialise. Hangar 13 is making a new Mafia game, Cloud Chamber is making a new Bioshock game and Bioshock’s franchise director Ken Levine is making a separate game called Judas.

GTA 6 has the potential to blow these all away however, should it actually release. Rockstar Games suffered a major hack in 2022 that led to early gameplay footage and data from the sequel being leaked online, proving that the game was already deep in development. It’s worth noting that games can and do get delayed all the time, so we’ll have to wait for Rockstar’s official word on a release date for now.
