Replays of the Week: IEM Singapore edition

logo%20oct%201.png

Or Grubby edition, however you like to call it. The eSports legend hijacked four of the five games this week and gave lecture on how to dissect a player using a variety of tools, baseball bat included.

1. Grubby vs Slivko

You go for 1-gate expand. You get 8-pooled. Your gateway gets unpowered right before a zealot pops out and you only have probes to deal with a zergling raid. What do you do, go!

What about Grubby, you ask? Well, he's a former WarCraft 3 player, workers is all he really needs. Too bad Slivko had to get the memo that way.

2. Zenio vs HasuObs

In days when PvZ is all about brood lords and motherships, Zenio comes in to save the day like an entertainment messiah. And he does it masterfully, with the finesse of a trained illusionist and all his techniques, as if directly extracted from a Nolan movie. First, the pledge: Zenio shows a standard brood lord/infestor tech, just to lead into the trick. Then, there's the turn: Zenio makes the brood lord/infestor army do nothing but fool around in the center.

And finally, the prestige: all of a sudden, the protoss is down three nexuses to ling drops and as his body gets chewed to bone, he wonders "What the hell happened, where's the infamouse a-move?"

3. MC vs Grubby

So you want PvPs to not be boring? You want protoss air to be used more? You believe the late game of the mirror cannot be just colossi deathballs?

Good, then open wide and try not to choke on what MC and Grubby are feeding you, namely 50+ friggin phoenixes collapsing onto each other in a battle that looks like it has come out of a specifically designed UMS map. Come to think of it though, who else would ever build so much fliers in one PvP game but these two?

4. Grubby vs Slivko

Note to self: If you happen to meet Grubby in tournament, end him before the 15th minute mark.

Otherwise, he will use only zealots and dark templars to kill every single mining hatchery and you will feel helpless, impotent and humiliated in front of quite the large crowd. Like Slivko did. For the second time this tournament.

5. Grubby vs Sting

Let's get a few things out of the way. This is not a replay that will teach you how to play blink stalkers since you will never replicate what Grubby does with them. This is also not a replay to teach you how terran should defends against it as Grubby makes it looks like there ain't a way.

This is a replay which in thirteen minutes showcases all the beauty and bliss of StarCraft's mid-game: two players, low economies and just enough units to push one's control skills to the outer limits.
