Hawk’s attempt at winning three ZOTAC cups in a row didn’t get off to a great start, as his expansion got shut down by fast gargoyles. The human player was able to eventually overcome the gargs, but his heroes were too far behind to fight against Lucifer’s. Down a game, Hawk battled back on Turtle Rock, catching his opponent off-guard with a nice rifle/caster timing. Lucifer was able to hold off the initial push, but when Hawk came back for a second go the undead player had no answer.
With the game tied up, Lucifer opted for an unusual strategy. He picked up a Lich first and went for a fast expansion with fiends. With both players on equal income, Lucifer’s army was much stronger. With higher level tri-heroes against Hawk’s own tri-hero setup there was only going to be one winner. The back-and-forth continued, though, with Hawk winning a very quick game on Amazon. After holding off a ghoul harassment on his expansion, Hawk bee-lined for his opponent’s base
It came down the final game, then, and it was a good old fashioned towers vs destroyers and fiends opening. Lucifer got a huge advantage when he shut down Hawk’s expansion and then the human player decided it was a good idea to go knights. With a bunch of destroyers and wyrms in Lucifer’s arsenal, knights could hardly have been a worse investment. The undead player was easily able to put the game to bed and deny Hawk his hat-trick.
