LCK Spring Split 2024

Everything to expect with the LCK Spring Split 2024

The LCK Spring Split starts in just a few days.

We will see the start of the 19th LCK season with the annual Spring Split that is expected to go on for almost four months from January 17 to April 7. It will feature the same 10 teams from previous seasons with only one change after SANDBOX Gaming rebranded to FearX.

However, all eyes will be on Gen.G Esports as they look to secure back-to-back Spring Split titles to make it four regional trophies on the trot. Gen.G have won the last three regional titles that started back during the Summer Split 2022 until now. And in all of Gen.G's three LCK grand finals, they have bested T1 each and every time.

Speaking of the reigning world champions, they will be looking to finally claim a regional title with its last being two years ago. T1 is the only team so far to have two different three-peats of LCK titles. This spanned from Spring 2015 to Spring 2016 when they were known as SK Telekom T1 as well as from Spring 2019 to Spring 2020 with the last being its first under the T1 banner. Both Gen.G and Dplus KIA are the only other two LCK teams to have a three-peat of regional titles.

LCK Spring Split - Format & Schedule

The LCK Spring Split will feature 10 teams in a double round-robin format during the group stages, which is expected to end on March 24th. Each team will play a total of 18 matches with its series being a best-of-three. As per tradition, the top six teams in the LCK group stage will qualify to the playoff bracket. The teams that place first and second will get an automatic bye to the semifinals.

The playoffs will be a double-elimination bracket with all matches being a best-of-five. What makes this year's LCK different from its predecessors is that now there will be two teams going to MSI, regardless of who wins. Given the new format change in the 2024 season, the LCK will now field two teams at this year's MSI with the winner and first runner-up. This also applied to the other major regions like the LPL, LEC, and LCS.

Given T1's status as the reigning world champions, many would expect them to seal the Spring Split trophy. However, their regional form has not been great over the last few seasons. And given how many teams have reinvested into its squads with multiple roster shuffles, you can expect a fair few to shine in the coming days.

Gen.G will always be the top contender, especially this season as they are the undisputed LCK champions. They made three changes to its starting line-up that won the last three LCK titles with a new toplaner, jungler, and support. Those three players went to Hanwha Life Esports, who failed to make it to Worlds last year and have doubled-down on its star-studded squad.

You also can't count out KT Rolster, who made it to only its third Worlds last year and still managed to consistently place in the top eight. Their refreshed squad features three former world champions from the 2022 season as well as a debut for its toplaner from its Challengers squad. Dplus also went through a heavy restructure by building its new roster around its star midlaner by bringing in a world-champion jungler from the 2022 season as well as three other new recruits.

The LCK Spring Split is expected to start in a few short days until early April. Be sure to catch all the action on the official LCK Twitch channel.
