Excel Esports and Giants have merged to give us GIANTX.
The merger between the Excel Esports, a British esports organisation in the LEC and Giants, a Spanish esports org in the Superliga have officially confirmed its merger that will see both teams now play under the banner known as GIANTX. This will see the second tier two team coming into the LEC franchise league with Karmine Corp being the first.
Three of XL's former members will be part of the new GIANTX roster that also includes a new support player as well as a new midlaner. However, none of the players from the former Giants roster will be making the switch over to the LEC. GIANTX will be making its debut in the franchise league next season during the LEC Winter Split 2024.
XL has been in the LEC since 2019 but have never been able to qualify for an international tournament. In all five seasons that XL have been a part of the LEC, they have never placed as high as sixth in either split. As this season was the first time the LEC introduced three splits, XL finished 10th during both the Winter and Spring Splits. However, it was able to come second during the Summer Split but it wasn't enough for the team to qualify for Worlds.
As for Giants, they have been with the Superliga since Season 13 and have since won it four times, including during its debut in 2017. Giants also have two Iberian Cups to its name, which goes to show that it was one of the biggest teams in the tier-two scene. And while GIANTX will be keeping the same coaching staff from XL, the aid provided from Giants during the merger could be beneficial for the new org in its hopes of qualifying for an international tournament.

GIANTX will be making its debut next month as they go up against Team Vitality on January 13th. And while both orgs are based in Europe, the team itself will consist of two South Koreans, two Czechians, and a sole Romanian — a very diverse line-up that has been the staple of the LEC in recent years.
