TSM, the long-standing pillar within the LCS, will be closing up shop and heading to a new region for League of Legends.
It has been confirmed that TSM will be leaving the LCS after 10 years, having built itself as one of the defining North American organisations in League of Legends. TSM's CEO, Andy "Reginald" Dinh announced the move via TSM's official Twitter account, which comes after rumours of NA organisations that were looking to call it quits with the LCS.
The first was Counter Logic Gaming, which had decided to leave League of Legends and sell off its LCS slot. It has since been picked up by NRG, who are looking to make a reappearance back into League of Legends. And during the period of CLG's exit from the LCS, there had been rumours swirling that TSM was the next in line. This came after many of its coaching staff parted ways with the org just a few weeks back.
And with TSM now confirming its decision to move to another region, it should mean that its LCS slot will now be up for sale. Investigative reporter, Jacob Wolf had also gone on to say that TSM will likely be moving to the LPL in the near future, citing sources that claimed TSM was in talks with LPL orgs back in November 2022.
A team that many saw to be the hope of NA and the LCS, TSM had never truly reached its potential when it mattered most. While the team did see positive results from its heyday back in 2013 to 2017, it hasn't been able to live up to its previous standards as of late. In that five years, TSM took home six NA LCS titles as well as made four Worlds appearances during that time.
But the TSM of old is long gone and the past few years have not been kind to one of the LCS' once great orgs. From 2018 to the present, TSM has since won only one LCS title (Summer 2020) while also making it to Worlds that same year. Aside from that, they've failed to qualify for any international competitions while finishing in the group stage of most regional splits in that period.
While it remains to be seen where TSM will call home for next season, they will still be competing for the LCS Summer Split in hopes of being able to qualify for Worlds for one final time representing NA.
