It's looking like it will be an exciting final day for Group B.
With that win, DWG.KIA solidifies their second place in Group B after defeating Evil Geniuses. This leaves EG in last place while JD Gaming's win earlier puts them in pole position while G2 Esports are left in third. DWG's win over EG was by no means a cakewalk with the LCS team putting the former world champions to the sword on multiple occasions.
As it stands, EG will now need to win their final three games on October 14 to stand any chance of qualifying for the playoffs. After a great start to Worlds 2022 in the Play-In Stage, EG has since not been able to replicate its past performances against other top teams. This was the second match where it was EG's game to lose after getting a strong start with the first happening against JD.
EG started their match against DWG on the front foot, getting two quick kills on the top lane to effectively shut it down in the early game. In return, however, DWG managed to secure themselves two kills in the bottom lane to even things out. For the most part, the early game saw both teams keeping things close to the chest. It was mostly even from the early-to-mid-game portion.
As both teams traded kills back and forth, the only way DWG could pull ahead eventually was through split pushing and taking objectives. DWG's map movements were key in their victory, managing to secure multiple drakes and outer turrets to put EG under even more pressure. Given their team composition, EG made it difficult for themselves to defend their turrets whenever DWG came knocking.
Despite most games culminating over a Baron fight, DWG's win over EG started with the fifth drake of the game. With DWG having the superior drake advantage of three-to-one, EG's jump into the pit ended up going wrong. Kacper "Inspired" Słoma's missed initiation saw him get jumped upon almost immediately. This opened the floodgates as both Joseph "Jojopyun" Pyun and Jung "Impact" Eon-Yeong fell soon after.
With three down on EG, this was the opening DWG needed to head towards the Nexus. As only two were left standing after the previous fight, there was little to no hope for EG to defend their base. Try as they might, it was another game for EG to lose and lose they did. Despite a bad start in the early game, the top lane duo of Jang "Nuguri" Ha-gwon and Kim "Canyon" Geon-bu won the game for DWG. Nuguri ended the game with the highest number of kills at six while Canyon registered 10 assists.
