The LEC looks miles ahead right now.
G2 Esports took apart Evil Geniuses swiftly and cleanly, putting aside the blemishes they suffered on day one. From minute one, G2 also put an end to a four-game losing streak that stretches back to the LEC Summer finals. That victory now puts G2 in third and will be joined soon by the loser between DWG.KIA and JD Gaming.
For all of EG's rambunctiousness during the Play-In Stage, their group stage performances aren't as pleasing to the eye. While their loss against JD yesterday was down more to individual errors, this was a team that looked devoid of confidence and creativity at the moment. They will have time now to regroup and reset for their next match against DWG, which doesn't get any much harder than that.
From the start to finish, G2 had EG on the ropes. It wasn't until the 15th minute did EG finally get on the board, but not before G2 got five kills of their own during the early game. That kill did come at a cost as G2 managed to gain an even bigger advantage over EG after that team fight. EG could only muster two kills that entire game, which meant that three of G2 had perfect KDA.
The likes of Victor "Flakked" Lirola, Raphaël "Targamas" Crabbé, and Sergen "BrokenBlade" Çelik ended the game with zero deaths while contributing to the G2's rampage over EG. BrokenBlade had six kills and assists; Flakked scored five kills to go with nine assists and Targamas racked up 16 assists with Rell. Of course, Rasmus "Caps" Borregaard Winther was doing Caps things with Sylas, also getting six kills and assists.
G2's win over EG also signifies that the LEC are currently miles ahead of the LCS. This would've been a wake-up call for EG as well after eliminating one of the LEC's own in MAD Lions. While they did break NA's duck against the EU, there are still some ways to go before they can get it right regularly.
We now head over to Group A with Fnatic taking on T1. The first-ever world champion versus the three-time world champion. This is a match that will also determine who will top the group to end day two of Worlds 2022.
