Things are heating up in Europe.
For our second episode of Halfway Point, we turn our sights towards the LEC 2021 Summer Split, which just concluded its fifth week. With only three more to go, it's a tight race to see who will make it to the playoffs. Click here to catch up on how the LEC 2021 Summer Split works.
As things stand, it is Fnatic who share first place alongside
Rogue with an 8-3 overall score. Right behind them is both
MAD Lions and
Misfits Gaming sharing a 7-4 overall score with the former having a crazy few weeks. Coming in at fifth is
G2 Esports at 6-5 and lastly, there's
Astralis to round up the top six.
Of the four teams that are at the precipice of elimination right now, two are surprising additions, mainly SK Gaming and
FC Schalke 04 Esports. Both teams made it to the playoffs in the Spring Split but are underperforming so far in the Summer Split. However, all eyes are currently on both the frontrunners, who have been absolutely flying these past few weeks.
For the most part, both Fnatic and
Rogue have been performing really well. They each have won eight games while losing only three but it's the EU org that holds the advantage after claiming the win over their EU counterparts earlier in the Split. As for the Spring Split winners and eventual MSI third-place finish,
MAD Lions have had a shaky start to the Summer Split.
It was hard for them to string a consistent number of wins together as two of the four losses came against opponents who are currently facing the drop. They still have plenty of time to turn it around as their next few matches look to be favourable results before ending it with a bang against the top half of the table.
Another team that deserves a special mention in Halfway Point for the LEC 2021 Summer Split is G2 Esports. While their performances have been above average at best, they have still managed to perform when it matters most, especially against
Rogue. G2 have now gone 12-0 against Rogue, which is pretty impressive to amass a record this large over a period of time. While G2 still have some work to do if they really want to go far in the playoffs, their match against Rogue was definitely a step in the right direction.
As for the current points standings, here is how the teams are looking:

If you'll look at the Summer Split Points, the numbers in the bracket are the potential points the team gets for finishing in their current position. This puts the next three weeks worth of games into a different perspective as only the top six teams with the most points can make it into the playoffs.
We will be updating more about the LEC 2021 Summer Split as well as the various other regions as we head closer to the wire on who will be heading to Worlds 2021.
