Firebat leaves Archon

The departure of team’s marquee is sudden, not four months after he re-signed with Archon for 2016.

Last night, Amaz’s team Archon lost their most decorated player. With over $218,000 in winnings – the highest of any Hearthstone player – and a world championship title behind his back, Firebat will look to continue his career elsewhere as he left Archon after fourteen months with the roster.

Details on the departure are still scarce, though the timing of the departure is certainly unexpected. In 2015, Firebat has gone on record on stream multiple times, talking about issues within Archon and his discontent with the team. The player himself has been relatively quiet on social media about him leaving, however, only saying he’s done it on his own volition.

Firebat is the third heavy-hitter Archon has lost in the past eight months. In August, the team parted ways with Sebastian “Xixo” Bentert and Ryan “Purple” Root, who went on to eventually join Na`Vi and GamersOrigin, respectively. At present time, the competitive roster of Archon is essentially reduced to captain Jason “Amaz” Chan, Jon “Orange” Westberg and Paul “Zalae” Nemeth with young prospect William “Amnesiac” Barton still waiting for his break-out performance. This also makes Firebat the hottest free agent on the scene together with StarLadder champion Stanislav Cifka.

According Firebat's mother Amy Kostesich's Twitter, a bidding war has already ensued between five teams to sign the 2014 world champion.

GosuGamers has reached out to involved parties for comment and we will shed more light on the story as it develops.

UPDATE 15:50 CET: Team Celestial has refuted the bidding war statement.
