If he makes it to Bucharest, Thijs "ThijsNL" Molendijk will have to defend his crown in the first DH event of the year
Aside from the five-digit prize pool, 115 World Championship points will be on the line. The calendars are marked for April 24-26 as the dates of the event.
As we reported last week, Hearthstone was set to return on DreamHack stage in the end of April. At the time, though, details were scarce and the public only knew that there would be more offline HS action in less than two months' time.
A press release from today, March 17th, reveals more about the gathering. Titled "PGL Spring Tavern Tales", the third Hearthstone tournament on DreamHack Bucharest soil will feature a $10,000 prize pool alongside valuable World Championship points.
There will be a few ways through which the player pool will be assembled. 24 slots will be reserved for the buyers of the 50 EUR PGL Tavern Tales ticket. As the ticket is available for purchase by anybody, it will be amateurs' chance to enter the world of high-stakes Hearthstone. Eight more slots will be put aside for the winners of the online qualifiers this March.
These 32 players - 24 ticket holders plus eight qualifier winners - will make for the group stage of the tournament. Through this sift, the top eight to advance to the main event playoffs will be determined. There, the group stage champions will battle with eight directly seeded players. The playoffs battlefield is a single elimination bracket and the grand prize is $4,000 plus 50 Blizzcon points for the winner.
1st place: $4,000 + 50 points
2nd place: $2,000 + 25 points
3rd-4th place: $1,000 + 10 points
5-8th place: $500 + 5 points
We'll keep you posted on further DreamHack developments, including the qualifier dates and the list of invites.
