The IndiGG Web3 Championship is taking place across India with a prize pool of $200,000.
Web3 Gaming DAO IndiGG has announced the IndiGG Web3 Championship, an esports competition that boasts a total prize pool of $200,000. The championship began in Bengaluru this week and will continue across India in cities including Kolkata, Pune, Chennai, NCR and Dhaka, before concluding with the finals set in Hyderabad in November 2023.
This championship was hosted and managed by the IndiGG community, along with help from the DAO’s clan chiefs. The two games chosen by the community to be played at the championship were EV.io and Thetan Arena, while Venture X Gaming acted as a sponsor. EV.io is a blockchain first-person-shooter, while Thetan Arena is a MOBA centered around NFTs.
The IndiGG Web3 championship kicked off with intra-college tournaments taking place in 64 colleges, with the top 64 teams battling to become the top 8 overall. The competition then rolled into quarterfinals, semifinals and the grand finals, eventually capping things off with an exhibition match featuring some of India’s most popular influencers in gaming.
The main matches were streamed on YouTube live, garnering over a million views throughout the tournament. Off the back of the championship’s success, IndiGG is also running a reputation program to build public records of an esports athlete’s performance, so that anyone can evaluate their reliability and sportsmanship in the esports space. This is essentially a tool for teams, coaches and sponsors to figure out the credibility of an athlete while onboarding them.
Members were awarded badges during the championship to signify their involvement, while all participating athletes were given ‘Proof-of-Participation’ badges. Winners and first-time viewers also got unique badges to prove that they won and watched the tournament, respectively.
