Netflix is officially making a Clash of Clans TV series
Fans of Clash of Clans, this one's for you: Netflix has officially announced an upcoming game adaptation of Clash of Clans and Clash Royale; both mobile games share the same playable cast of characters, but follow different gameplay formats. The animated series is said to follow a “determined but in-over-his-head Barbarian who must rally a band of misfits to defend their village and navigate the comically absurd politics of war".
Entergalactic director Fletcher Moules will showrun the series, having previously directed animated Clash of Clans videos for Supercell. Ron Weiner (Arrested Development, Futurama) will write the series, while ICON Creative Studio serves as its animation studio.
Netflix’s VP of animation series John Derderian said of the announcement:
"Clash has been a global gaming phenomenon for over a decade - filled with humor, action, and unforgettable characters perfect for an animated series adaptation. We're bringing all the fun, chaos, and spirit of the world of Clash to life in a whole new way. We can't wait for fans - old and new - to experience the mayhem."
Supercell’s head of film and TV Curtis Lelash added:
"Think epic battles, immaculate Barbarian mustaches, and the kind of humour our players know and love. They've been asking for a Clash series forever, and we're beyond excited to finally say: It's happening!"
This won’t be the first Clash of Clans animated series to debut online. An animated series called Clash-A-Rama! The Series debuted on YouTube back in 2016, where it has since amassed a cult following. Unfortunately, the series has not received a follow-up in recent times.
Supercell’s plans for Clash of Clans have also changed greatly. The game was originally meant to have three more spin-offs on top of Clash Royale, entitled Clash Quest, Clash Mini, and Clash Heroes. Today, only Clash Heroes has survived–albeit repurposed as a different project codenamed Project R.I.S.E.
