The show was slated to resume filming today at Santa Clara but was delayed due to the ongoing fires in LA.
Firefighters are dealing with multiple large fires in the Los Angeles County on Wednesday (8 January PST) (Thursday 9 January SGT), which are sweeping across the neighborhoods of Pacific Palisades, Altadena, and Sylmar, according to a report by BBC.
This has affected the production of several Holywood films, with several filming permits across fire-stricken areas having been withdrawn. This was announced in a statement by FilmLA, the permitting agency for shoots in Los Angeles.
“The LA County Fire Department has specifically instructed that all permits issued for filming in the communities of Altadena, La Crescenta, La Canada/Flintridge and Unincorporated Pasadena are withdrawn. Other permit revocations are possible,” they said in the statement.
Fallout 2 filming postponed due to the LA fires
According to a report by Variety, this also included Amazon’s Fallout Season 2, slated to resume production this week at Santa Clara. The Amazon series had been forced to shut down for the safety of its cast and crew, although it’s only been postponed until Friday for now.
Fallout is based on the video game series of the same name by Bethesda Game Studios. The story follows Lucy, a young woman who leaves the safety of Vault 33 to navigate the perilous wasteland of a ruined Los Angeles, in search of her kidnapped father. Along her journey, she runs into a Brotherhood of Steel squire and a legendary ghoul bounty hunter, each of whom carry their own histories and personal motivations.
Season 1 was made available on Amazon on 10 April, 2024. The show was a roaring success, gaining 65 million viewers in the first two weeks. It has been praised for its faithful depiction of the game's retro-futuristic universe, which led to a resurgence of players in the entire Fallout Franchise, especially Fallout 76. The series has received critical acclaim, scooping up 17 Primetime Emmy nominations, and winning Best Adaptation at The Game Awards 2024, surpassing other notable contenders such as Arcane Season 2 in doing so.
Amazon has officially renewed Fallout Season 2, with production was initially slated for November 2024. The series had begun filming by December 2024, and was set to resume filming in Santa Clara on 8 January, 2025 coinciding with the wildfires across the LA county. While production has only been postponed until Friday, its timeline may shift depending on how long it takes to contain the fires and assess the extent of the damage.
The fires have impacted several productions beyond Fallout. NBCUniversal confirmed the suspension of shows including Hacks, Loot, Ted, Suits: LA, and Happy's Place. Similarly, CBS has halted production on NCIS, NCIS: Origins, and After Midnight. Disney has also paused work on Doctor Odyssey, Grey's Anatomy, and Jimmy Kimmel Live.
Warner Bros. was not spared either, with its Burbank studio closure affecting Abbott Elementary and other productions.
