The Last of Us Season 2 has a new trailer and release window.
HBO’s TV adaptation of The Last of Us will return for a second season this April. During a presentation at CES 2025, Sony revealed the news with a one-minute trailer showcasing familiar scenes from the upcoming season, which adapts the events of The Last of Us Part 2. Where previous trailers focused on Ellie and Joel, this one shines a spotlight on newcomer Kaitlyn Dever, who plays a new character named Abby.

The Last of Us Season 2 confirms April 2025 release window
The sophomore season of HBO’s The Last of Us is upon us. Sony has officially confirmed a more exact release window for The Last of Us Season 2, following an earlier announcement that new episodes would premiere sometime in 2025. A new trailer for the series has revealed that this season will be released in April 2025 – albeit without an exact premiere date.
Notably, the trailer also focuses on Season 2’s newcomers: Abby (Kaitlyn Dever), Dina (Isabela Merced), and Isaac Dixon (Jeffrey Wright). Wright reprises his role as Isaac for the series, having also played the character in The Last of Us Part 2, a game this season will adapt in part – but not fully.
This is a pretty intense trailer, with an unknown character (likely Abby) monologuing: “It doesn’t matter if you have a code like me. There are just some things everyone agrees are just wrong.” During the voiceover, we see returning characters Joel, Ellie, Tommy, and Maria, interspersed with imagery of explosions, infected hordes, clickers, and an ominously red-lit underground subway.
We won’t spoil the details of these scenes here, but fans of The Last of Us Part 2 will recognise many scenes from the game being brought to vivid life for the series. The Last of Us Season 2 will premiere on HBO and Max in April 2025.
