Moon Knight announced as Marvel Rivals’ latest playable character
Moon Knight, the Marvel superhero with multiple personality disorder and powerful abilities given by the Egyptian god Khonshu, is joining Marvel Rivals' launch roster of playable characters. NetEase Games announced his arrival at D23 Brazil, with a character reveal trailer that ran through his ability kit in quick succession.
Here's how the Marvel Rivals website describes the new playable hero:
Mercenary Marc Spector was given a second chance at life when he became the avatar of the Egyptian moon god, Khonshu. As Moon Knight, he doles out righteous vengeance, locked in a never-ending battle with both the criminals on the streets and the voices in his head. At Khonshu's behest, Marc doles out righteous vengeance against those from across all timelines that challenge his master, putting him at odds with everyone from the mystic evils of Doctor Doom to the unknowable, alien darkness that threatens mortals and gods alike. In Marvel Rivals, Moon Knight wields these supernatural powers bestowed by Khonshu to vanquish his foes.
A gameplay video released by IGN offers a better look at this hero's abilities, however. Moon Knight is a Duelist character much like the game's previously-revealed hero Psylocke, specialising in high mobility and damaging AoE attacks. He can fire off Crescent Darts with his primary ability or use his secondary ability Moon Blade - both of which bounce between enemies for additional damage, punishing enemies who crowd around the player.
His Ancient Ankh can also be thrown at the ground, allowing Crescent Darts to automatically target enemies within a certain range. He can also glide around the battlefield, and summon a tornado of fists with his ultimate ability. Given Moon Knight's popularity and powerset, his inclusion in this game is a no-brainer for NetEase. At this point, the only character suspiciously missing from the playable roster is Marvel Rivals' main villain: Doctor Doom.
Moon Knight will be available to play when Marvel Rivals launches on December 6, 2024.
