Diablo 4 Season 5 has launched with an accidental bug that Blizzard is turning into a feature.
Season 5 of Diablo 4 kicked off today with an unexpected surprise: players have been allowed to carry over all of their Legendary Tempering recipes from Season 4. According to Blizzard, this was an unintended bug - but the developer has chosen to be generous and turn it into a feature for this season.
Diablo 4: Season of the Infernal Hordes also launched with a new wave-based horde mode, a new story quest and a host of balance changes.
Diablo 4 Season 5 allows players to carry over Legendary Tempering recipes
Diablo 4 Season 5 has launched today with an interesting bug. Players have been allowed to carry over all of the Legendary Tempering recipes they earned from last season, despite these recipes typically getting reset every season. After players discovered the bug, Blizzard’s global community development director Adam Fletcher announced on Twitter/X that it was here to stay, saying “This isn't the original design or intention so I wouldn't expect this for future seasons but we are letting this one slide for Season 5.”
Tempering recipes were introduced as part of a loot rework in Season 4, allowing players to choose specific affixes and attach them to their favourite pieces of gear. Each season is meant to introduce new Tempering recipes, but it looks like Season 4 players might not necessarily need them for a while. All of their Level 1 characters will now have access to Season 4’s Legendary Tempering recipes, and thus be able to level up a lot more easily.
Of course, this also means that anyone who hasn’t played through Season 4 is out of luck. They’ll have to play through Season 5 as intended, while everyone else sprints through the midgame. Diablo 4 Season 5 has also introduced a new wave-based game mode called Infernal Hordes, which should be enough to keep players busy until the season ends in October.
Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred launches on October 8, 2024.
