Valve might be working on a new Half-Life game, according to multiple leaks.
According to recent leaks, Valve is working on a new Half-Life game under the codename 'Project White Sands'. A videogame voice actor’s resume recently surfaced on Reddit listing the project, followed swiftly by a dataminer confirming that “strings from Counter-Strike 2 & Dota 2” also contain references to a new Half-Life game.
The game has not been confirmed to be Valve's long-awaited sequel to Half-Life 2, but we do know that it won't be a VR-exclusive title like Half-Life: Ayx. The developer seems to be working on this new title alongside an upcoming hero shooter called Deadlock.
New leaks point to Half-Life 3's existence
The speculation was followed up by data miner Tyler McVicker, who published a video reviewing recent updates to Valve’s Source 2 games, like Counter-Strike 2 and Dota 2, which mentioned an unannounced singleplayer game. In the data mined files, the game is codenamed “HLX” and features a player character wearing an HEV suit who goes “off-world”.
The data mined files also mention enemy types cut from Half-Life: Alyx called “Xengorillas,” “Xenjellyfish,” and “Xenswoopers.” The files also mention driveable vehicles and “Penta Tanks.” McVicker affirms that the game is likely to be Half-Life 3 despite there being no specific mention of the title, and that it won’t be a VR game.
All signs point to a new Half-Life game being in development at long last, even if it might not be a straightforward sequel to Half-Life 2. Valve is likely developing the project alongside its upcoming hero shooter Deadlock, which is described as a 6v6 PvP game with a fantasy-steampunk setting.
