Blizzard Entertainment has finally shown off gameplay for its upcoming Spiritborn character class.
Blizzard Entertainment has officially unveiled the Spiritborn, an all-new character class coming to Diablo 4 in its upcoming Vessel of Hatred expansion. The Spiritborn are tied very closely to this expansion’s new location Nahantu, and they channel animal Spirit Guardians like the Jaguar, Gorilla, Eagle and Centipede to enhance their Monk-like hand-to-hand prowess.

All-new Spiritborn class revealed for Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred
We’ve known that Diablo 4’s upcoming expansion Vessel of Hatred is coming with an all-new character class called the Spiritborn for a while now, but Blizzard has finally shown off exactly what the class can do. In practice, the Spiritborn is fairly similar to Diablo 3’s Monk, as a martial arts class. The key difference is that this new class is themed around Nahantu’s jungles, channelling animal-like Spirit Guardians from the Spirit Realm in combat.
That doesn’t mean they actually summon animals in combat, however. Instead, the Spiritborn are able to call upon Jaguar, Gorilla, Eagle and Centipede Spirit Guardians for special combat abilities, when they’re not using a glaive to block and dodge attacks. This class is geared towards fast-moving, damage-dealing gameplay, armed to the teeth with movement and evasive skills.
Each of the aforementioned animal Spirit Guardians represents a different aspect of this class’ ability kit. For example, upgrading skills relating to the Jaguar will make players faster in both movement and attack speed. The Gorilla on the other hand, makes them tankier by reducing damage through constant blocking. The Eagle allows players to move around the battlefield freely and evade enemy attacks. Centipede-related skills are centered around poison debuffs and crowd control, allowing players to leech HP points from enemies while slowing them down.
Much like any other character class, the Spiritborn’s skills are designed to allow players to either specialise in a specific playstyle or mix a few together. In this case, you’ll either choose one Spirit Guardian or try being a jack-of-all-trades. You can also head to the Spirit Hall and fully devote yourself to a specific Spirit Guardian, which gives you a primary passive specific to that choice. You can also choose a secondary Guardian for another bonus, or double down by sticking to one Guardian for two bonuses.
Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred launches on October 8, 2024. Check out more information on the Spiritborn here.
