Diablo Immortal players are getting a World of Warcraft crossover next month.

It was only a matter of time. Diablo Immortal is crossing over with World of Warcraft next month, in a new event called Shadow of the Frozen Throne. From July 4 to July 26, icy portals related to the Lich King will pop up all over Sanctuary, bringing in undead enemies for Diablo players to fend off. The event also adds World of Warcraft-themed cosmetics and a new ability to the game.

Diablo Immortal x World of Warcraft collaboration details

The Lich King’s blade Frostmourne has popped up in Sanctuary, heralding all manner of trouble for Diablo Immortal players. From July 4 to July 26, undead threats from Blizzard’s hit MMORPG World of Warcraft will materialise in Diablo Immortal via frozen portals, thanks to an all-new crossover event called Shadow of the Frozen Throne.

Players will have to find Frozen Gates in the wilderness of Sanctuary and enter them, before defeating the invaders lying within. By doing so, they will gain access to a new ability called Chill of the Frozen Throne. This ability increases player damage by 10% for 10 seconds, for every five monsters they kill. They can also randomly raise up to five undead warriors to fight by their side.

Logging into Diablo Immortal during the Shadow of the Frozen Throne event will immediately earn players a free reward: the Icecrown Frame. Completing the event will additionally net them a Frostmourne Weapon skin. There is yet another event-themed cosmetic available, but it's locked behind a paywall: any real-money purchase in Diablo Immortal will also give players access to an Icecrown Pathway Portal inspired by World of Warcraft, starting on July 11.

Diablo Immortal’s World of Warcraft crossover event kicks off on July 4. MMO players can also look forward to World of Warcraft's highly-anticipated The War Within expansion, which launches on August 26 and kicks off a story arc called the Worldsoul Saga. Diablo 4 is also getting its first expansion - Vessel of Hatred - on October 8, adding a new playable class and region to the game.
