The Boys will officially come to an end with Season 5, though spin-offs are likely.

Amazon Prime Video’s hit satirical superhero series The Boys is officially coming to an end. Showrunner Eric Kripke announced that the series will conclude with its fifth and final season on Twitter/X, which he states was, “Always my plan.” The Boys Season 4 hits Amazon Prime Video this week, and Season 5 will likely go into production later this year.

Here’s a trailer for Season 4:

The Boys Season 5 is ending, but Season 4 premieres this week

The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke has announced that the series is concluding with its fifth season. The superhero series was renewed for Season 5 earlier this year in May, but it wasn’t announced as a farewell season at the time. According to Kripke, he couldn’t actually confirm that The Boys was ending until he got, “the final OK from Vought,” referring to Amazon Prime Video.

Kripke’s announcement reads:

#TheBoys Season 4 Premiere Week is a good time to announce: Season 5 will be the Final Season! Always my plan, I just had to be cagey till I got the final OK from Vought. Thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax. Watch Season 4 in 2 DAYS, cause the end has begun!

The Boys Season 4 starts streaming on Prime Video this week, with a three-episode premiere on June 13. This season will pick up with the aftermath of Homelander killing someone in broad daylight last season, only to be met with applause and support from his adoring fans. Meanwhile, the rest of the titular Boys work to bring down the Seven while Billy Butcher comes to terms with his ruined health.

While The Boys will end with Season 5, it’s likely that Amazon plans to keep this universe going with further spin-offs. The superhero college series Gen V is currently filming its second season, and another spin-off titled The Boys: Mexico has also been announced. Amazon is also developing Fallout Season 2.
