Ubisoft's new Assassin’s Creed game set in feudal Japan will get a reveal trailer this week.
Ubisoft has announced an official title for its long-awaited flagship game Assassin’s Creed Codename Red, which will take place in feudal Japan. The game is now called Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and the game's publisher is finally set to reveal it to the public with a cinematic trailer on May 15.
Ubisoft’s next Assassin’s Creed game gets official title and reveal date
Ubisoft first announced Assassin’s Creed Codename Red back in September 2022, when the company announced a slew of new upcoming games in the franchise. We already know that the next mainline entry after Red is a 16th century-set game codenamed Hexe, focusing on witch hunts and supernatural events in Central Europe. A mobile spin-off called Assassin’s Creed Jade was also announced alongside these two games, set in Ancient China.
Assassin’s Creed Codename Red is now called Assassin’s Creed Shadows and is set to deliver a, “very powerful shinobi fantasy,” according to previous interviews with Ubisoft staff. The game will take place in feudal Japan, but very little is otherwise known about its specific setting and characters. We’ll likely know more when Ubisoft drops the game’s reveal trailer on May 15.
However, some have noted that Ubisoft’s YouTube channels have already confirmed Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ release date ahead of its trailer premiere: November 15, 2024. Keeping that release date in mind, it’s likely that Ubisoft plans to show off more of the game next month during its Ubisoft Forward presentation on June 10.
Hopefully, we’ll also finally learn more about Assassin’s Creed Infinity during the presentation. Infinity was first revealed in 2021 to be a live-service platform in the vein of Fortnite, serving as a hub for future instalments in the action-RPG franchise. Infinity will present the modern-day stories players usually get in each Assassin’s Creed game, while the games themselves focus on specific historical settings.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be the first game to be included in Infinity, so it’s inevitable that we learn more about the platform in the months ahead.
