Helldivers 2 players will soon be able to deploy mechs on the battlefield.

Helldivers 2 is finally getting its long-rumoured mechs. Developer Arrowhead confirmed on Twitter/X that the game will soon add ‘EXO-45 Patriot Exosuits’ for players to deploy on the battlefield, giving them a better way to beat back the Automaton invasion. This new mech appears to contain both a missile launcher and a chaingun, so it’s bound to be a powerful weapon to use in battle - though the amount of mechs available for use will likely be limited.

Helldivers 2 is officially getting mechs

The official mech announcement reads, “HELLDIVERS! The EXO-45 Patriot Exosuits are in full production in the factories of Tien Kwan. Ready for deployment on the battlefield soon!" These mechs have been rumoured to be added to the game for a very long time now, as leakers data mining its files have found a host of new weapons and items that seem more or less feature-complete. For example, here’s some early mech gameplay dug up by players:

It looks like these mechs will be deployed on the battlefield via dropships, ready for Helldivers to simply jump in and take control of their weaponry. They’ll likely have armour-piercing weapons as well, giving everyone a better way to mow down tankier enemies. On the flip side, being in a mech will also make players a much bigger target - so prepare for tank shells and mobs of enemies aplenty.

More upcoming vehicles have been leaked online, and it’s unclear if all of these new additions will be released together in a new update or if they’ll be staggered out. We know that Arrowhead has been hiring to speed up future content updates and bug fixes, so the developer is clearly taking its post-release roadmap seriously. The next update will also bring several balancing changes to the game, so prepare for the tide of war to change.
