Guerrilla confirms Horizon Forbidden West sequel is already in the works

It looks like we’re getting that Horizon trilogy after all.

Not that it was ever in doubt, but developer Guerrilla Games has announced that a sequel to Horizon Forbidden West is currently in the works. This means that Aloy and her machine-hunting friends will get to star in a full-fledged trilogy, in addition to their appearances in other spin-offs like an upcoming multiplayer game.

Guerrilla casually dropped the news during a management update, revealing that studio director Angie Smets was moving up to PlayStation Studios as head of development strategy. While outlining the shifting management structure in its own studio, the developer said:

We have full confidence in our new leadership as they steer Guerrilla towards a bright future, expanding the world of Horizon with Aloy's next adventure and our exciting online project.

Considering that the Horizon series has been a feather in PlayStation Studios’ cap for years now, a sequel to Horizon Forbidden West isn’t that surprising. After all, we already got an expansion to the game called The Burning Shores, and a spin-off game called Call of the Mountain for the PlayStation VR2. It’s full steam ahead for this franchise, and the upcoming sequel isn’t even the only game it has coming out soon.

Guerrilla confirmed back in 2022 that its long-rumoured Horizon multiplayer game was officially in development as a ‘separate only project’ to Aloy’s now-confirmed trilogy. The title will be a co-op multiplayer game with, “new cast of characters and a unique stylised look,” that lets players, “explore the majestic wilds of Horizon together". Images from an early alpha version of the game were leaked earlier this year, showing off a more cartoonish art style and different playable characters. These images have since been taken down.

Netflix is also developing a live-action series based on the series, reportedly taking place years before Aloy’s adventures.
