Elden Ring, Genshin Impact and Wordle were the most tweeted about games in 2022 so far.
The first half of 2022 has come and gone, and Twitter has rounded up the most talked-about games on its platform so far. A lot of the usual suspects are here, like Genshin Impact and Wordle, but there are a few surprising inclusions too.
All in all, there were around 1.5 billion tweets in the first half of 2022 centered on gaming, a number 36% higher year-on-year. Genshin Impact was the most tweeted about game by far, and it’s easy to see why. Between the constant release of new playable characters, content updates and fanart going viral, the game’s community has always had something new to engage with online.
Coming in second was Wordle, the online puzzle game that once whipped up a frenzy on a daily basis - but perhaps lost some steam after its switch to the New York Times. Elden Ring and Valorant are new to the list, with the former having just released in March this year, and the latter seeing new content updates and a dialled up esports presence.
Final Fantasy as a whole was fourth on the list, presumably due to a series of announcements from the franchise this year. We got exciting new trailers for Final Fantasy 16, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and a remaster of Crisis Core respectively, giving fans quite a bit to talk about online. Third on the list is a game franchise called Ensemble Stars, which consists of a mobile rhythm game and an idol-training game.
Here’s the full list:
- Genshin Impact
- Wordle
- Ensemble Stars!
- Final Fantasy
- Project Sekai
- Apex Legends
- Elden Ring
- Fate/Grand Order
- Valorant
- The Legend of Zelda
The Legend of Zelda likely made the list purely because of Nintendo’s upcoming sequel to The Breath of The Wild, which was recently delayed to 2023. Twitter also released a list of the countries tweeting the most about gaming this year:
- Japan
- United States
- South Korea
- Thailand
- Indonesia
- Brazil
- Philippines
- India
- United Kingdom
- Mexico
There’s some interesting esports data in here too. Here are the most tweeted about esports athletes so far:
- FalleN (@FalleNCS)
- TenZ (@TenZOfficial)
- Nobru (@nobru)
- Fnx (@linfnx)
- Rekkles (@RekklesLoL)
- Cabochard (@CabochardLoL)
- S1mple (@s1mpleO)
- Mixwell (@Mixwell)
- Scump (@scump)
- Hungrybox (@LiquidHbox)
On the most-tweeted about esports teams, Loud Esports, Karmine Corp and Crazy Raccoon lead the list:
- Loud Esports (@LOUDgg)
- Karmine Corp (@KarmineCorp)
- Crazy Raccoon (@crazyraccoon406)
- FaZe Clan (@FaZeClan)
- paiN Gaming (@paiNGamingBR)
- G2 Esports (@G2esports)
- T1 (@T1)
- Los Grandes (@losgrandesgg)
- Fnatic (@FNATIC)
- Furia Esports (@FURIA)
Meanwhile, the most tweeted about esports leagues consisted of the usual suspects: Campeonato Brasileiro de League of Legends, Apex Esports, League of Legends Champions Korea, Call of Duty League and Overwatch League, in that order. Dota 2 didn’t seem to make the list this year, but there’s still time considering The International 2022 hasn’t even kicked off yet.
And there you have it! The second half of the year is jam-packed with gaming releases, so most of the items on these lists are bound to be shuffled by the year’s end. For now however, Genshin Impact rules supreme.
