A new Legend, a new game mode, as well as an old map making a return with a twist.
Apex Legends is one of the most popular battle royale titles at the moment with its hero shooter gameplay, spanning 11 seasons long since its release on all platforms back in 2019. In just a couple of weeks, Respawn Entertainment will be releasing season 12 after a new “Stories from the Outlands” animated short that came out this week, which also revealed a brand new legend in the form of Mad Maggie, a fan-favourite who was first introduced back in season eight as an old friend of Fuse from his world, Salvo.
While the short didn't reveal much about what we can expect of Mad Maggie, we did get a backstory on how she ended up in the Apex world after being tried for her crimes against the Syndicate. But instead of facing the firing squad, she was spared to instead face-off in the arena. There is no news yet of what Mad Maggie is capable of but the short did reveal that an official trailer for season 12 will be coming out later today.
In her official artwork from Respawn, we see that she is wielding what looks to be like a retractable whip to go along with a shield that emits some sort of barrier. She could very well be an Offensive legend, making her the ninth addition to the list as well as the 20th on the overall tally of legends in the game.
Respawn is also throwing in a brand new limited-time game mode for Defiance known as 'Control'. In this all-new LTM, two teams of nine will battle it out on the arena to take and hold control over specific target points with pre-selected loadouts and infinite respawns. This looks to be a blend of the current Arena mode due to the pre-selected loadouts as well as popular 'Capture the Flag' game modes from the likes of Call of Duty and Battlefield. According to Respawn, the Control LTM will be available for the first three weeks of Defiance.
In addition to that, Respawn will also be bringing back Olympus after making way for Season 11's Storm Point. According to the official Apex Legends website, there will be "something different" about Olympus with a new view to boot. This was teased in an ad to celebrate Apex's third anniversary, which will coincide with the release of Defiance. And during its first three weeks of launch, Apex will be giving out free login rewards to celebrate its momentous milestone.
Given that Defiance drops on February 8, each week from then to February 15, February 15 - 22, and February 22 - March 1, players who log in during all three weeks will stand a chance to unlock Legends in the form of Octane, Wattson, and Valkyrie as well as three thematic packs each week along with a legendary pack in the last week. Players will still receive awards even if you've already unlocked all three Legends.
