How did the newly released characters in Genshin Impact measure up this year? We ranked them from worst to best.
Genshin Impact has had an exciting year in 2024, with a lineup of new characters bringing fresh abilities, stories, and gameplay dynamics to the table. From crowd favorites and unexpected surprises to absolute yawners, we’ve ranked every character released this year to see who truly stands out in Teyvat.
15. Kachina - Geo, 4-star
Kachina may be the most adorable playable character released in 2024 and a worthy warrior in Natlan’s story quest, but her kit has been incredibly lackluster. Kachina is touted as a subDPS unit, but her damage simply cannot compare to other 4-star subDPS characters released before her. Exploration-wise and lore-wise though, Kachina is definitely at the top!
14. Sigewinne - Hydro, 5-star
Sigewinne may be everyone’s favourite melusine, but as a 5-star healer and support she really didn’t meet expectations. Sigewinne’s awkward kit made it weird for her to be played; is she a healer or a damage dealer? But it’s incredibly clear that her Hydro application is not as reliable as we want it to be.
13. Sethos - Electro, 4-star
As a Main DPS, Sethos is just okay, and that’s why he’s 13th. He can become capable of dealing big DMG, but compared to the other DPSs on this list, he just doesn’t compare.
12. Ororon - Electro, 4-star
Ororon performs well as an electro subDPS, but like Sethos, compared to the others in this list, he comes up just short of being able to shine. Exploration-wise however, he definitely stands among the cream of the crop!
11. Gaming - Pyro, 4-star
Gaming was a pleasant surprise to players thanks to his really great DPS kit. He boasts high DMG multipliers, fun gameplay, and of course, HoYoverse’s favourite element. Not only that, but if you were able to get his constellations, Gaming could be compared to top-tier 5-star characters in performance. However, what brings Gaming down to the 11th spot in our list is his complicated playstyle and unreliable Pyro infusion.
10. Chiori - Geo, 5-star
Chiori is a formidable Geo subDPS with a unique kit that’s genuinely fun to play, and boasts great Burst DMG multipliers as well as off-field DMG capability thanks to her Tamoto. However, Chiori’s overall low damage scaling compared to other units in this list bumps her down to 10th.
9. Emilie - Dendro, 5-star
Emilie brought a new way to play Genshin Impact to the table thanks to her Burning-focused kit. As a subDPS and support unit, Emilie provides great damage numbers and buffs to teams she is in. However since she’s locked to teams that only work with Burning, she does not place higher in this list.
8. Chevreuse - Pyro, 4-star
Chevreuse has made a name for herself as the premier support unit for both Electro and Pyro teams that focus on the Overloaded reaction, and can stand as a replacement for Kazuha in these team compositions. Other than that, she’s also a pretty reliable healer to boot! However, what places her 8th in the list is that her powerful kit is locked only to Overloaded teams, while her full potential is locked behind her constellations.
7. Xianyun - Anemo, 5-star
As a support unit, Xianyun is able to provide a plunge-attack playstyle to any playable character in Genshin Impact, making her a valuable unit to players who love to do the Dragon Strike style of attacks. Xianyun also focuses on partywide heals and buffs, as well as providing an easier way to explore Genshin Impact’s sprawling map of mountains and cliffsides. However great her kit may be, her high energy cost bumps her down to 7th place on our list.
6. Mualani - Hydro, 5-star
Mualani is a very competitive main DPS who is capable of dishing out massive amounts of Hydro DMG to enemies, making her a character you don’t want to miss pulling for. Besides her high DMG numbers, Mualani also makes exploration much easier thanks to her ability to surf through water. But what places her 6th on our list is the decreased reliability of her attacks, which need great timing to land on particularly fussy enemies.
5. Kinich - Dendro, 5-star
Kinich is a powerful Dendro main DPS with an exhilarating Burning-aligned kit, focusing on dealing massive amounts of DMG while zipping across the map. What makes Kinich 5th on our list however, is that players need incredible foresight when deploying his skill, which may be difficult due to overworld environmental factors, and simply because Ajaw is incredibly annoying (sorry, not sorry!).
4. Clorinde - Electro, 5-star
Clorinde is an amazon Electro Main DPS who can consistently apply Electro to enemies, making her a valuable unit to have if you’re playing team compositions that focus on Electro-related reactions. Not only that, Clorinde’s agility throughout the battlefield makes her a formidable enemy to face, while her self-healing abilities can make space for compositions that do not necessitate a healer.
3. Xilonen - Geo, 5-star
Xilonen is arguably a Geo Kazuha, and this is what makes her an incredible character to have in your roster. Xilonen is capable of shredding resistances, as well as providing buffing and single-target healing when necessary. Xilonen can also dish out decent DMG in her own right, and works well with any team composition as long as it meets her requirements!
2. Arlecchino - Pyro, 5-star
Arlecchino doesn’t stop in making you acknowledge that she is indeed the fourth of the Fatui Harbingers. Arlecchino focuses on dealing amazingly enormous amounts of Pyro DMG, and is self-sufficient enough that she can work with only 3 buffers and a shielder in her team. The thing is, her near-godly kit is also what bumps her down to number 2 in our list. Yes, she’s scary powerful, but her power also constrains her to a generally restrictive team composition, and her complicated playstyle is definitely not beginner friendly.
1. Chasca - Anemo, 5-star
Chasca is an Anemo main DPS who is effectively Genshin Impact’s first multi-carry character, and is capable of integrating well to team compositions composed of Pyro, Hydro, Electro, and Cryo. Although she mostly focuses on single-target DMG, this is not a big issue since she’s able to decimate enemies instantly if you build her correctly, and compared to Arlecchino’s complicated, restrictive conditions, Chasca is a more lax character to understand and play with. Chasca also has a fun playstyle that allows players to take her into the sky on a massive gun cannon. What more would you want from a character, right?
