Looking for something creepy and scary to add to your wishlist in this year’s Steam Next Fest? We’ve got you covered.

With Steam Next Fest in full swing, there are tons of promising games from indie developers that are up to bat!

If you’re looking for a horror game that’s perfect for a spooky gaming sesh, and want something that’s both unique and terrifying in this year’s Steam Next Fest lineup, we’ve curated 5 titles you can wishlist and look forward to! From cinematic scares, eerie psychological terror, and a thrilling tale of survival, here's what we think could fit the bill for a night of dread and adventure.

Tenebris Somnia

Developer: Andrés Borghi, Saibot Studios

Publisher: New Blood Interactive

With a unique mix of pixel 2D gameplay and live action cutscenes, Tenebris Somnia is a survival horror adventure akin to the classics like Silent Hill or Resident Evil — but with a retro feel reminiscent of the N.E.S and Famicom.

But what truly makes this game pop is its live action sequences that feature a completely different aesthetic, complete with real actors, and amazing monster designs, all from a professional and award-winning film crew.

Tenebris Somnia will feature puzzle-solving, terrifying scares, and a fighting mechanic, testing your drive to survive!

What Remains

Developer: CHICHKA

Publisher: CHICHKA

What Remains is a non-linear horror visual novel that features figures from Ukrainian folklore, a branching narrative, and an atmospheric experience that all depends on the choices you make.

Set in a nondescript village in the middle of nowhere, characters Goat, Bear, and Granny will take you on an eerie journey where you must decide the villager’s fate: do you save one? Condemn another? Do you set the village in flames or freeze it in a gruelling winter? It’s completely up to you.

Stuff to do

Developer: RexCorp

Publisher: RexCorp

You have so many things to do, and you can’t leave the house. What do you need to do?

In this psychological horror game, Stuff To Do plays with your mind and perception, forcing you to question just what’s real and what’s not. Complete chores, and investigate the house, there’s just something there that doesn’t seem right. Don’t get overwhelmed. Remember to check your pulse.

Stuff to do features a retro point-and-click gameplay that’s experimental and minimalistic, with an uneasy atmosphere that adds to its surreal, eerie experience.

Sorry We’re Closed

Developer: a la mode games

Publisher: Akupara Games

In this nostalgic, single-player survival horror game, follow the main character Michelle as she battles to break a curse placed upon her by a powerful demon looking for love!

Featuring atmospheric environments, gorgeous art and animation, as well as fixed camera angles and arcade-style first person combat, Sorry We’re Closed will have you undergo a dangerous journey through the demon world, doing what it takes to stay alive.

With multiple endings in store, Michelle’s fate hangs in the balance with the choices you make– will she survive or fall into the demon’s alluring embrace?

Sorry We're Closed will come out on November 14, 2024.

Massacre At The Mirage

Developer: Tainted Pact

Publisher: Assemble Entertainment

Reminiscent of your favourite slasher flicks, Massacre at the Mirage features a spine-chilling tale of survival as both staff and patrons of a beloved movie theatre are being stalked by a crazed killer masked as a clown!

Featuring a unique dual perspective, each character you will embody will offer depth to your gameplay as you fight to survive the killer’s unrelenting brutality. With the threat of death ever so close at hand, do whatever it takes to evade death, and survive until the end!

Massacre at the Mirage will come out on October 28, 2024.

Steam Next Fest is currently taking place from October 14 to October 21, 2024, featuring tons of upcoming games by indie developers fit for a variety of gaming tastes. Wishlist, play demos, and support small game creators!
