Ubisoft’s annual games showcase showed off trailers for Star Wars Outlaws, Assassin’s Creed Shadows and more.
Ubisoft presented its annual games showcase Ubisoft Forward this week, showing off trailers and announcements for its upcoming game releases. We got new trailers for Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Star Wars Outlaws, in addition to more content for existing games like XDefiant and Skull and Bones. The one thing we didn’t get was an update on Beyond Good & Evil 2, which was first announced all the way back in 2016. What’s going on there?
But I digress. Here are the most exciting trailers and reveals from Ubisoft Forward 2024:
Star Wars Outlaws (August 30, 2024)
Massive Entertainment (The Division 2)’s open-world Star Wars game has dropped a meaty 10-minute gameplay showcase for fans to chew on. The video shows off Star Wars Outlaws’ protagonist Kay Vess and her axolotl-like animal companion Nix, both of whom travel to Tatooine and get into a spot of trouble. We also see glimpses of criminal factions like the Pykes and the Hutts, and a few open-world planets like Tatooine and Akiva.
Check out our full breakdown of this footage here.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows (November 15, 2024)
The next Assassin’s Creed game is an open-world game set in feudal Japan with dual protagonists: the samurai Yasuke and shinobi Naoe. This 13-minute gameplay video focuses on the key differences between Yasuke and Naoe as playable characters. As a samurai, Yasuke applies brute force to resolve conflicts by smashing and slicing his way to victory. As a shinobi, Naoe prefers to strike from the shadows and stealthily conquer enemy bases unseen.
We broke down this new gameplay footage here.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is getting a free update featuring remixed bosses, new items, and more puzzles for players to leap, bound, and dash their way through. If you’re looking for something meatier, the game has also had an expansion in the works titled Mask of Darkness launching in September.
The Rogue Prince of Persia
The roguelite platforming game The Rogue Prince of Persia is getting an update called the Temple of Fire, adding more content to early access in preparation for a full release.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake (2026)
This one is complicated. Ubisoft originally had this remake in development at two Indian studios, Ubisoft Mumbai and Ubisoft Pune, but after a lackluster initial showing in 2020, development was moved over to Ubisoft Montreal. The latter studio has essentially restarted development on the game, having only just moved past the pre-production stage, so don’t expect this remake to launch anytime soon.
XDefiant (July 2, 2024)
XDefiant’s pre-season is almost over, and we now have more details on its first official season of content. Season 1 will add GSK from the Rainbow Six franchise as a new playable faction along with new maps, a Capture the Flag game mode, and more weapons.
Anno 117: Pax Romana (2025)
If you’re into economic sim real-time strategy games, you might want to look out for Anno 117: Pax Romana. This sequel launches next year, allowing players to step into the sandals of a Roman governor who is tasked with developing a burgeoning empire.
BattleCore (out now)
Here’s a launch trailer for Ubisoft’s unconventional new free-to-play shooter BattleCore. In this game, you play as a spherical Core and shoot up other cores in fast-paced battles inside various arenas. The game is now in early access.
Just Dance VR (October 15, 2024)
It’s Just Dance, but in virtual reality. If you’ve got a Meta Quest 3, there really is no excuse to avoid checking this one out.
Monopoly (September 2024)
Ubisoft is making another console/PC version of Monopoly, the game that ruins friendships and annihilates family nights. The game that turns gamer toxicity into a built-in feature. The game that insists top hats and monocles are still in vogue. I could go on.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora: The Sky Breaker DLC (July 16)
In little more than a month, Avatar fans will have a new piece of content to chew on while the movies take their sweet time to hit theaters. The Sky Breaker DLC launches next month as part of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora’s season pass.
Skull and Bones Season 2 and 3
Skull and Bones is getting more live-service content, starting with its currently-running second season Chorus of Havoc. Season 2 adds a few quality-of-life fixes, more ship upgrades, a sea monster, and two more villains. In Season 3: Into the Dragon’s Wake, players will get another new sea monster called the Flying Dragon, in addition to a 5v5 PvP game mode and a new sea lord.
