The Spring 2024 anime season is absolutely packed with exciting anime, but here are our top picks.
A new season of anime is always something to look forward to. Most of your old seasonal favourites might be coming to an end, but a whole new slate of anime is already raring up to replace them. Spring 2024 is packed full of sequels, remakes and long-awaited adaptations, some of which come miraculously out of left field. Take Spice and Wolf, for example - a beloved anime which ended with a short two-season run, leaving fans wanting more. This Spring, they’re finally getting what they want in the form of a full-fledged two-cour-long remake, with the potential of more on the horizon.
It’s far from being the only anime on our Spring 2024 watchlist, too. Here are our 10 most anticipated anime to watch this Spring:
KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World! Season 3 (April 10)
It’s been a long time since Kazuma Satou was reincarnated in a fantasy world and tasked with defeating the Demon King, but he sadly appears to be no closer to his goal. At least he still has his party members - the goddess Aqua, explosion magic user Megumin and crusader Darkness - by his side, even if they usually prove to be no help at all. This season of KonoSuba is being produced by animation studio Drive, replacing the first two seasons of Studio Deen. It took a long seven years for fans to get a new season of this show, but it’s finally here!
Demon Slayer: Hashira Training Arc (May 12)
If you’ve been waiting to learn more about the colourful individuals of the Demon Slayer Corps, this season is practically made for you. With Muzan Kibutsuji planning to kidnap Nezuko, the members of the Hashira prepare for war by enacting strict Demon Slayer training. Tanjiro will have to train hard in this calm before the storm, and learn more about the Hashira he looks up to.
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3 (April 5)
After Satoru Mikami was killed and reincarnated in a fantasy world, he found himself reborn as a mound of slime with the ability to eat anything and mimic its appearance and abilities. When he stumbles upon a monster called Veldora and agrees to free it, he embarks on a new adventure free of the mundanities of his past life, with a new name: Rimuru Tempest.
Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Part 2 (April 8)
Rudeus Greyrat has had the time of his life in magic school: he’s made new friends, won a few duels and even reunited with his oldest friend Sylphie - at first platonically, but later romantically. In Season 2’s second course, Rudeus and Sylphie will grow closer while he pursues his ultimate goal of locating his mother in this strange and often dangerous land.
My Hero Academia Season 7 (May 4)
My Hero Academia is going into its climactic and action-packed final arc in Season 7, as the students of superhero academy U.A. High School prepare for war against a group of villains led by Tomura Shigaraki and his puppetmaster All For One. America’s most powerful Pro Hero Stars and Stripe is coming to assist in the fight, but unbeknownst to her, Shigaraki has been tasked with stealing her Quirk.
Kaiju No. 8 (April 13)
Massive kaiju have been appearing in Japan for years, leading to the formation of an elite military unit called the Defense Corps. While the Defense Corps fights back against the kaiju, sweepers under a cleaner corporation are left to dispose of monster remains. This anime follows a sweeper called Kafka Habino, who desperately wants to join the Defense Corps but has since resigned himself to mediocrity. When he encounters a parasitic kaiju that turns him into a humanoid monster, however, that old dream of his suddenly becomes a lot more achievable.
Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf (April 2)
A powerful wolf deity named Holo was once revered in her small town for blessing its annual harvest. Once the town became more self-sufficient, Holo found herself isolated and on the lam - only to run into a travelling merchant named Kraft Lawrence. Together, the two agree to become business partners while journeying to her northern home. This isn’t a sequel to the classic anime Spice and Wolf, but rather a remake that adapts the original series’ contents, and more, in a two-cour season.
Whisper Me a Love Song (April 14)
Yori Asanagi might think herself to be a mature person at heart, but she still gets caught completely off guard when her underclassman Himari Kino confesses love to her after her band performance during the freshman opening ceremony. After much contemplation, Yori decides to do her best to return Himari’s feelings - but unbeknownst to her, Himari wasn’t confessing her love for Yori, but Yori’s music! This is a romance anime, so we have a feeling things will work out in their favour despite all the crossed wires.
The Grimm Variations (April 17)
CLAMP is providing character concepts for this new take on Grimms’ Fairy Tales, with Wit Studio on animation duty. Brothers Jacob and Wilhelm once collected fairy tales from all around the world and put them in a book, but their much younger sister sees these stories very differently than her brothers. This one is set to stream on Netflix.
Grandpa and Grandma Turn Young Again (April 7)
This wholesome anime follows an elderly married couple, Shouzou and Ine Saitou. The duo randomly wake up one day to find that they have become young again - but their newfound youth does nothing to change their bubbly personalities, as they go about their daily lives, spend time with their family and defy the expectations of youngsters.
